When Jacob was a young boy, he knew somewhat about his people. He had grown up hearing the myths and legends. The folklore and bedtime stories thanks to his family and Quileute tribe, who had always filled his head with whimsical tales of mystical creatures and magical people who had walked this land. Including the ones about his tribe, his own friends and relatives. His own history. So it was safe to say he was always vaguely aware of who they were and all the wonderful things they do and the great people they descended from. But of course, it was a family secret, so Jake had to stay quiet if he wanted to keep the strong warriors who tuck him in at night. And maybe even become just like them one day, when he grows up to be big and strong. Though, they weren't just silly kid's stories.

This was his harsh reality.

And he would soon have a harsh wake-up call when the monsters would come knocking at his door.

When Jacob was 13 years old, he had been told of the responsibility his family had in keeping his home safe. And the measures they had to take in order to keep it safe and how the warriors within his family fit into that. But that also meant making peace with particular people he had heard about. They were called the "cold ones". He wasn't really told the ins-n-outs of the situation; what he knew already was enough for now.

"Jacob!" his father, Billy, called out to him from the living room. "Come here. I need to talk to you for a second." Jacob had left his small crafting project on the carpeted floor in his bedroom as he went into the living room to meet the calling voice.

"What's up, Dad?"

"Hey, kiddo. Look, I'm gonna need you to be on your best behaviour, ok? This is very important, so I need you to listen closely, alright?" His dad instructed as he sat young Jacob down on the couch and crouched down to his eye level. Jacob nodded as he listened. He was always a good boy.

"So, I have a meeting in a few minutes with some new neighbours...Or rather, old neighbours. They've lived here for a while before you were even born, but they've just moved back into town," Billy started.

"Can I meet them?" Jacob interjected. "I'm sick of hanging out with the others. Seth is annoying, Rachel and Rebecca are no fun, and I miss Bella," Jacob whined when hearing the news of new potential friends. His father chuckled and squished his son's chubby cheek between his fingers but was met with Jacobs's hand softly swatting him away with a cried "ouch!"

"Hush, be nice to your sisters. And Seth will be coming over in a minute, so you better behave," he scolded softly. He waited for a moment and looked down as his smile soon faded and continued with a serious tone.

"Son, remember how I told you about the spirit warriors of our tribe?" Jacob nodded again proudly before his dad went on. "And how they protect us from certain people? Well...Our neighbours that I'm about to meet with are the people our warriors protect us from. We call them 'cold ones', remember?"

Jacob's face suddenly turned into a scowl, becoming concerned by the thought of the villains he heard about who fought his ancestors living close to him.

"What are they doing here? Why are we going to talk to them?" Jacob was about to stand up before Billy held him in place and sighed as he tilted his head back down towards the floor.

"Son, I'm the one who's going to talk to them. You have to stay in here-" He asserted before Jacob cut in.

"What?! No way! I'm not leaving you by yourself to talk to them. What if they-"

"I won't be alone. I'll have Harry with me, Old Quil and all the others beside me, ok?" Jacob paused in thought as he heard his father out. "And hey, if anything goes wrong, you'll need to be here to protect Seth and your sisters, yeah? Anything goes wrong, I'm putting you in charge to make sure they're all safe. Got it?" Billy tried to reason, giving his son a smirk and watched as Jacob's face scrunched up in consideration.
