Arc 2 太陽の街 : City of the Sun
Y/N now walks freely without her mask. After the mission against Upper Moon Six, the Phoenix Pillar is put on trial for harming another demon slayer. Let off with a light punishment, Y/N is temporarily relieved of her Pillar duties.
During her punishment, she comes across a journal within her old belongings. As she reads the journal, she finally becomes aware of the curse running through her family. Recognizing the signs in her fellow demon slayers, Y/N realizes that the people around her may be harboring deeper intentions than she original thought. Although she no longer fears men, she is troubled by their clingy and obsessive behavior.
Bothered by their acts, she searches for a way to end the curse. Amidst her search, she comes across the Demon Progenitor. Like the others, the curse sets in quickly as Muzan Kibutsuji's eyes lay on the features of the Phoenix Pillar. He quickly subdues her and brings Y/N back to the Infinity Fortress.
Immediately, the Demon King has the desire to make the Phoenix Pillar perfect. Without any regards to Y/N's wishes, Muzan turns her into a demon, adding her to his ranks.Now trapped within the Infinity Fortress, Y/N is monitored by the top demon slayers. As Kokushibo, Douma, and Akaza become acquainted with the newly turned demon, they all find themselves falling into a deep obsession.
While Y/N is trapped, the remaining Pillars struggle to cope with her absence. Resorting to destructive ways, they stray further and further away from humanity. During his search for Y/N, Tanjiro comes across the last place Y/N was last before disappearing. In the rubble, Nezuko fishes out a familiar journal belonging to the missing Phoenix Pillar.
Finally, the Pillars' immoral acts are discovered by Ubuyashiki. Gathering the Pillars, the Head of the Demon Slayer Corps gives them one final word of advice before the Pillars come together to rescue the captive Phoenix Pillar.
太陽の街 directly translates to City of the Sun. In mythology, Helipolis or City of the Sun, is where the phoenix would take it's predecessor's ashes to the altar of the Sun God each time it is reborn. The City of the Sun and the phoenix's journey to the altar symbolizes Y/N's discovery of her roots. With Y/N as the phoenix and the journal, having been left behind by her ancestors, represents the ashes. Somewhat similar to the phoenix's journey, Y/N travels with a remnant of her ancestry as searches for the end to the curse.
