Meowth  the cat pokemon with the coin on its head. It's based on the maneki-neko or the beckoning cat. It's the cat thing in the Asian parlors, stores, grocery places with its hand going up and down like C'mere spend your last $20.00 here. One legend on the origin of the beckoning cat is that one day a lord was hiding under a tree from a storm and he saw the temple's cat waving like "come over lord" so the lord did right before when he was 1 step near the temple "BANG!" lightning struck the tree that he was hiding under crackled and broke. The next day the lord told the village what happened and they were surprised to hear what he said. A few years later the cat died. They made a statue of it waving. Meowth is also based on the bakeneko or monster cat not Baka Neko Baka means stupid and Neko means cat put them together and they just mean "people who don't where masks in the pandemic." The bakeneko  is a cat yokai that prefers to walk on it hind legs and use it powers to cause trouble and even kill there owners it can summon fire and control dead corpses the longer the tail is the more powerful it is Some bakeneko can shapeshift into humans and learn their speech cool-...I mean bad you can say that any cat pokemon that stands on both legs and/or has a long tail is one like purrlion esspur and meowstic  maybe mew and mewtwo? ehhh they aren't cats but they have long tails and act kinda cat-like. Esspur and meowstic are also like bakenoke but they are more like nekomata which is a different cat yokia with 2 tails they are super powerful, smart and evil when a normal cat or bakeneko turns into a nekomata it tail splits into 2.
