Jennifer POV

I walked into Café Ruisseau Willow - the local coffee shop - and saw Aubryee Addison sitting at a table in the corner. She waved me over and I sat down. As I approached her, I noticed that her face was streaked with tears.

"Jenny!" she cried, "Joshie just broke up with me! I don't know what to do!!"

I groaned internally. I can't believe this. She's so dramatic!

"I'm sorry, honey," I hugged her and she cried into my shoulder. I could feel people's eyes on us and frankly, I was embarrassed to be seen with Aubryee like this. I heard the bell ring as the door opened and I saw Aubryee's best friend, Danie, walk in. "Danie!" I waved him over.

"Oh my god, what happened?" he asked as he approached. We shared a look, both knowing exactly what was going on. Aubryee finally let go of me and looked up at Danie.

"Joshy broke up with me!" She wailed. The entire café had their eyes on us and I saw my wonderful boyfriend, Jake, walk in. He came to our table and crouched down to my eye level.

"Hey," He smiled at me, his amber eyes shining into my soul.

"Hi," I returned his smile.

"We need to talk about what happened last night," he told me in a very loud whisper that Aubryee could definitely hear. I shot him a confused look. He leaned in closer to whisper in my ear. "I'm just trying to get you away from Aubryee, come outside."

I stood and followed him out the door.

"Thanks for saving me. I owe you," I said as soon as the door closed behind us.

"Anytime. Let's go to practice," he slid an arm around my waist and we headed down the street towards the high school.

When we arrived at the high school for our only practice of the week that Aubryee wasn't at, Justin ran up to us.

"Aubryee told you, didn't she?" he asked, and I nodded in response.

"Took you long enough, dude! We were waiting forever!" Jake laughed and smacked Justin's back. We followed him out to the field, where the rest of the football and cheerleading teams were waiting.

"There you guys are! I guess you heard the good news?" my friend, Katie, called out when she saw us.

"Yeah, we were just at the café where she was crying!" I called back. The whole cheer team started laughing.

"Where's Danie?" Justin asked me. He seemed genuinely concerned.

"He's back at the café trying to comfort Aubryee." Jake laughed.

"To no avail." I  added, giggling a little.

"Oh. Do you know if he'll be here?"

"Probably not, but we'll see."

"Alright everyone, let's get started!" Lily, the cheer captain called out to us. We got in formation and began to practice.
