Right now, my mom and I are fighting. Not yelling. But yelling in sign language. So while my mom rambles on about me, let me tell you about me! My name is Alicia Lock. I am currently 16 years old and I am deaf. I started becoming deaf at the age of 6 but being so young, my mother thought I was messing around... Until we finally went to an ear doctor and he said I'd lose my hearing completely by a year. I really don't know how on earth I could randomly become deaf like that, I guess it was genetic or something because my grandmother was deaf, but my mother was not. When I was 10 years old, my dad left my mother and I because they just weren't getting along. My mom couldn't take it anymore, so she kicked him out. I sometimes miss my dad, but I also think he would've been disappointed in me and would've left anyway because of my situation. You might be wondering what my mom and I are fighting about, well, we're fighting about me going to a public school. I've always wanted to go to a public school! My mom continued the list of reasons why I shouldn't go, for example, I'll get bullied, special attention, etc. Truthfully I don't give a damn about what others think of me. My mom, Stephanie, finally gave in! We're moving to L.A! Currently we live in Colorado, so it isn't THAT far! I hugged my mom and went to pack. While I was up there I texted my only best friend, Claire, and told her the good news. She was very supportive of me and didn't get upset. I looked over at my clock and read "8:51pm" I decided to tell Claire goodnight then hop into bed. The last thought going through my head was "I just want to be normal" And slowly drifted to sleep.
