Mackenzie Samuels - 3rd Feb.
I ditched assembly like almost every Tuesday last year because I'm not really into clapping for people that I strongly dislike when they achieve something spectacular. Also it's the boring and long prefect assembly today when they name all the different prefects and give out badges and crap. I highly doubt I'll be rewarded a prefect position so there's no point in attending.
I'm sitting at the back of the field with the stoners well that's what everyone calls them and associates them with but it's hardly true. We're just chilling at the back field no drugs in sight people just assume and most of the time assume incorrectly. I'm mostly listening to them talk about the stupidity of prefects and how all year 13's should be allowed to be in charge of something because we've dedicated ourselves to one more horrible year of hell.
Candice has always been like this a big advocate for feminism and she's always taking part in peace protests - not that we have that many here, she literally travels to larger cities for them - and I think she even tied herself to a tree once. These guys are always preaching about freedom, equality and peace. It's nice to hear debate among friends about real life issues and not stupid crap like what to wear to a party.
I can't say the same about Em and Sammy they're reasonably smart but rarely talk about anything important it's always gossip and other useless information I swear they don't even watch the news or read the newspaper which is ridiculous considering newspapers are now on the internet and most news channels have websites where you can catch up. It doesn't hurt to have a little knowledge on what's going on in the world.
"What do you think, Mackenzie?" Scott asks, we've been friendssince nappies we're not really that close anymore but I know he has my back and he should know I have his. We've been through a lot together.
"Well, I agree that prefect like positions should be offered to all year 13's. But, with saying that I think the system that is put in place to ensure the top scholars that have billions of extracurricular activities are able to get these positions works in the favour of our school. Because, for example say I was given the prefect position of the social prefect it wouldn't work because I don't like people so socializing is not my forte meaning the precious school ball would be a disaster and everyone would want to kill me. So the way they put socialites in the social position the sporty in the sports positon and so on works in favour of our last year running smoothly. But, I do wish there was a place for everyone to feel valued and needed because Candice is right we all deserve at least some recognition for putting in effort this year." I explain.
"Sometimes when you talk I forget that you're a bitch because you almost sound like you care." Scott says cheekily.
"I'm not a bitch all the time." I confess.
"But you are like 96 percent of the time." Levi, Scott's best friend says and we all laugh because true.
The conversation kept going and we all talked and guessed which girls and boys would get each role and I think by the time we heard the bell we had a pretty solid list. Scott has taken the leap and taken Art this year instead of Photography apparently he wants to let his creative juices run free with a paint brush instead of a camera but I'm pretty sure the last time he did Art was in year 9 so I wish him luck. Scott and I walk to Art together while everyone else finds their own way to class.
Scott sits down beside me at my table and we wait for Mrs Thompson to appear and for the class to fill up a bit more because there's only roughly half a class in here right now.
"Hello everyone!" Mrs Thompson cheers as she walks into the class holding an arm load of art books and other paperwork and then a dude walks in behind her holding another arm load of art books and places them down on Mrs Thompson's table beside her pile.
