Chapter 8 - Coluan

Ok so maybe Theia didn't think it all through. The place was abandoned sure but getting inside was going to be difficult. She had managed to hack system asking for a pass code but now she needed Lex's voice.

"Kryptonite" she heard a voice say and she turned around.
"Brainy!" She sighed with relief as the doors gave way.
"How did you know..?"
"I've had encounters with Lex, plus the simulation I ran based on his character..suggested Kryptonite would hold its value"
"You came" she smirked " You were worried about me, weren't you?"
"Yes I was" he muttered honestly and Theia could not help the pink that dusted her cheeks.
"What you're looking for should be in here" he said and provided a retinal scan. She entered the room and he would have followed suit had he not noticed the image inducer scanners hidden on the walls.

"You coming?"
"I'll..just stand here and keep watch..in an event of any surprises"
Theia saw what she came for but the moment she took it, the door snapped shut and the room started to fill with some kind of gas. She started getting dizzy and she could vaguely hear Brainy yelling her name from the other side. She didn't know how he did it, but he entered to save her and that's when it happened.
She saw him glitch as he approached her and then before her eyes stood a Coluan, in all his green glory. She couldn't even summon the impulse to scream as she passed out.

Brainy paced back and fourth. He wasn't particularly worried about Theia's health, he had fixed her up himself and made sure the gas was no longer in her lungs. She would be fine was she woke up but he was dreading it. He fixed his image inducer and he thought it best not to have her see his green self once she opened her eyes.
Theia stirred and opened her eyes.
When they landed on him, she shrunk back in fear. The fact that she was alone with a Coluan made her want to bolt.

"I'm not going to hurt you" he said sincerely and the fact that she thought he would made his heart bleed.
"If you're going to speak to me, turn off that stupid image inducer"
He did just that. She took a long, horrified look at him, the Braniac symbol on his chest made her head hurt.
"I can explain.."
"I want the truth Brainy...if that is your real name"
"It's actually Querl DOX. But I am a Brainiac 5, so my friends call me Brainy"
"Alright Querl, tell me..and tell me honestly, do you know what happened to my planet?" she snarled, her fear replaced with anger as she backed him up against the wall.

"When I was eight years old, my family went on a vacation, I saw snow for the first time. When my mother saw how badly I wanted to remain on that planet, she bottled it for me" he says and tears spring from her eyes " But my father was horrified by her actions and he released Khione"
"Do you know something Querl Dox? " she said as she formed a light blast in her hand " I have always imagined for many years what I would do if I ever came across a Coluan. I have learnt to fear your kind ..and hate them too. The species that killed my sister..I had planned many horrible things to do to the Coluan that created the two worst days of my life.
I planned to make it slow because, when they die, they go on to exist in their Coluan network of minds..the big brain? But I would derive satisfaction" she took a long, jagged breath " and after this sting of betrayal..I need that satisfaction" she aimed the blast at his heart. He could easily have gotten himself out of that situation but he was overcome by his guilt.

"But I cant..." she powered down and cried even harder " You're my friend.. I let you train me, I let you in my head... YOU BOTTLED MY PLANET!!" She stepped away from him and took the engine part on the table. " and you lied to me, several times.. pretended to be my friend.."
"It wasn't pretence. I was going to tell you.."
"Lies!"
"I am your friend..please..I.."
"You....are a Brainiac" she said and ran out of the med bay. Those words were like a slap to his face. His very reason for joining the Legion, going down this path of goodness was to avoid any form of linkage with his ancestors,the
conquerors, collectors, killers, destroyers... It was the worst thing anyone could ever call him.
But he felt like he deserved it..
