Confusion

I start to walk towards the exit. I don't know where I'm going to go, but I need to leave. I hear my name being called, but I refuse to listen. My arms are wrapped around my body and I'm shivering. I've suddenly become very cold. I feel as though all the heat has left my body. It hurts. It physically hurt. I fall to my knees but hitting the ground didn't hurt. I barely felt it. I don't understand what I witnessed. This can't be happening. My breathing is short and staggered. It's hard to get under control.

I feel a hand land on my back, and I jump up and back away. I look to see the eldest child, Jack, looking at me with concern. I can see the worry and fear in his eyes. He knows what I saw. He's seen it too. Without thinking, I grab his arm and pull him in. I don't care if he thinks it weird or something. I hug him tight. He's not much taller than me, but I hug him as though he's a small child. In a way he is still a child. He shouldn't be in the middle of this. None of them should be. He does something unexpected; he hugs back. I expected him to shove me away, thinking it unusual, but he wraps his arms around me.

"You shouldn't be a part of this. You shouldn't know war yet." I break from the hug, my hands move to his shoulders, looking him in the eye.

He doesn't say anything but looks to the ground. He knows I'm right. Unfortunately, I can't save him from it anymore. I drop my hands and he walk away. As I stand there, looking over the whole place, my eyes landing on the other two children. They are staring at me with sadness in their eyes. They feel my pain. It's a different pain, but it's still the pain of war.

The swirling vortex opens up. The greens and blues mixing around like a tornado. Arcee, Bumblebee, Smokescreen and Bulkhead are the first to come through. The vortex closes as Optimus Prime makes an entrance into the base. His eyes immediately catch mine. The words don't need to be said. I know I fucked up. I made a grave mistake. I learned the truth, but I know there is good in Dreadwing. I don't know what I saw, but that wasn't him. That wasn't the Dreadwing I know.

"Can I please go back to base?" I plead with my eyes; the rest of my body stays ridged.

"I don't think it would be wise to take you back to base. I have never seen Dreadwing so angry before. Not even when his twin had passed. He will come looking for you." Optimus explains.

"Optimus, I can't be here right now. I need to think. He would never harm me." I feel as though I'm delusional. I know I'm being looked at like I am.

"Did you not see him shooting at us or throwing the bomb?" Smokescreen spoke up. All those in the room send him a glare, "Sorry, but he did."

"I know why he hates you guys, but he knew I was there. Why did he shoot at me?" I feel the tears filling the brim of my eyes.

"We may never know. But it is not safe for you out there." Optimus kneels down on one knee in front of me.

Before I can say anything, Ratchet's computer starts to beep.

"There is an incoming transmission...It's from Dreadwing." Ratchet doesn't sound surprised.

"Put him through." Optimus stands up and walks over to his comrade.

"You promised to keep her safe, Prime! How dare you bring her onto the battlefield. If Megatron would have been there, she would be dead thanks to you." Dreadwing's voice roars throughout the silo.

"You shot at me! You almost killed me. So much for wanting me to be safe." I scream at the computer screen, not letting Optimus speak.

"You weren't supposed to be there. You are supposed to be safe and secured in their base. Why were you there?" His anger slowly bleeding from his words as he speaks. But he doesn't explain why he shot me.
