Chapter 11
Augustus POV
"Wake up sleepy head." Tallulah's sweet voice filled my ears. I felt warm, the sun laid against my body but I actually felt warm.
"Sleep in with me tulip." I groaned. Her giggle was harmonious.
"We can't, Angelo snuck into the coop this morning and played catch with breakfast. And now Wilma is crying." She whispered, pressing her lips to my cheek before my eyes snapped open. The sound of a soft cry in the distance had me sat up. The thin cot and scratchy wool blanket suddenly felt familiar.
I watched my blonde haired mate walk away in the ragged clothing I grew up in. I got out of bed, finding my way through this unfamiliar room. My breath hitched when I looked out the window.
We were on a hillside, looking over an empty bay, yet to be claimed. Grassy hills rolling into the distance. I must be dreaming. It has to be a dream.
"Papà, mamma says I can't go to town with you!" A small boy shouted. I made my way out of the bedroom. Watching Tallulah chuckle while she fed the small baby in her arms.
"Tell mamma she's pazza." The boy spoke up. I just about burst into laughter at the comment. The small boy couldn't be older than seven, he looked like me, a small me with chestnut hair and big brown eyes. I stared down at my hands and arms, ink free and tan.
"Angelo, stop being dramatic and clean up your mess. There are broken eggs all along the trail." Tallulah rolled her eyes playfully.
"Papino!" Another small voice piped. I turned and saw a tiny girl, her hair was golden and long. She latched to my leg, reaching her small arms up for me to hold her.
I grabbed her without thinking. Analyzing her before she wrapped her arms around my neck. I had children. I had a family with Tallulah. One boy and two girls, and by the looks of the way Tallulah held her abdomen, we had another on the way.
"Take me to town papa." The small girl whispered in my ear. She was a spitting image of Tallulah.
"You don't wanna milk juju with me? Go swimming after chores?" Tallulah cooed over my shoulder, trying to convince the small four year old to stay home with her.
"No, I go with papa to town for candy." She smiled, burying her face in my chest. I looked up to find Tulip narrowing her eyes at me.
"Buying your way to favorite is cheating." She whispered to me. Without thinking I leaned into her. Pressing my lips to her pouty ones. She looked as if she made a phenomenal mother.
She kissed me back while Angelo gagged at the breakfast table. What a dream. A mortal life with my mate might be one of the greatest dreams of all.
"Who's juju?" I asked her as I pulled away. She gave me a funny face.
"Our cow. Did you hit your head?" She asked with wholehearted seriousness. I couldn't help but question this place. If it truly was a dream or I slipped dimensions, or maybe I was dead and this was heaven.
The baby in Tallulah's arms began to cry, I looked down at her button nose as it turned pink through her wails. Tulip placed a knuckle in her little mouth and rubbed against her gums.
"Teething." She whispered as the baby quieted.
"You need to leave now if you'll be back in time for dinner. Flora's coming over remember?" She spoke up while she collected dishes. I held our oldest daughter while I watch Tallulah pack a bag of food.
"Masina, grab your boots if you're going with papa." She hollered over her shoulder. My daughter wiggled in my arms before I set her down. She rushed to the door throwing herself on the floor and stuffing her feet in a pair of boots.
