Ground Gamma was already tarnished from the previous battles that marred its landscape, impressed by the sheer power of all the students across the Hero classes. The Joint Training Exercise was an anticipated event, one that your fellow classmate Neito Monoma harped on weeks before it arrived. Despite the haughtiness in his voice, the exercise gave the opportunity to showcase the progress you've made with your Quirk amongst friends and classmates alike. More especially to show a certain student in the opposing Hero class how far you've grown. Spotting Shouto Todoroki amongst the crowd of students was nerve-wracking, feeling the flight of butterflies flutter in your gut. However, there was something else that didn't quite sit well, eyeing your opposing team and staring at its shortest member.
Standing before you was Minoru Mineta, the famed Grape Juice who surpassed the Final Hero Exams on his own against Midnight. You hadn't met him personally, nor had you sought out more about him, but there was something odd about the way he eyed you up and down. For a moment, he said nothing while both homeroom teachers addressed the classes. His eyes only stared at you, more so along your body rather than your face.
"You're gorgeous," he complimented with a tone that crawled up your spine, disgusted by his delivery and more so that gaze he peered with.
You felt the twitch in your lips, holding back any look of disgust before you leaned towards a fellow classmate beside you - Hitoshi Shinsou to your surprise who was invited into the exercise courtesy of Aizawa's and Vlad's suggestion.
"Can we trade?" you whispered, pleading with your eyes towards the purple-haired student, only earning a shake of his head after realising who you were associating your question with. You sighed exasperatedly. Now you understood why Monoma insisted on drawing straws with everyone before assigning who focused on which opposing team member.
Surrendering to your circumstance, you turned ready for the exercise to begin, soon hearing the blare of the alarms echo across the grounds. The exercise began with a bang, literally, with the first wave of attackers being Mina Ashido's acidic assault along with Mineta's support. Soon after, Midoriya and Uraraka were on the trail as backup, asserting their assault onto your team, only to contend with Monoma and Shinsou. Focus was important in order to keep both your strongest team members unaffected and free to take care of the strongest members of Class 1-A's team, but that focus was impeded by the subtle advances you felt from your assigned target.
"Hey!" yelled Mineta while dodging every attack you pulled, swiping at him with any access to water made possible. Whiplash kept him at bay with a swing of your arms, crashing into the piping and concrete that surrounded you. You kept your access close, hoping to keep Mineta preoccupied throughout the bout, but also regrettably having to keep him at arm's length.
Mineta dodged every attack easily, his small stature an advantage with every shot of water that came his way. Still his own moves were just as ineffective, pushed back by the rush and tumult of water that cascaded between himself and you. It was becoming a stalemate, one that he began to notice slowly overtime while he attempted to evade your hold on him. A moment of reprieve between the both of you was the opportunity he needed to catch his breath, finding that you heaved from your shoulders, shivering a little and yet still standing by as if you were a brick wall unable to be brought down.
"Come on, we don't have to fight it out. How about we make a truce?" persuaded Mineta through heavy breaths, hoping to come to reason with you.
A wave of water shot towards him before he rolled away, dodging your assault once more. Just as quickly as you replied with an attack, you drew the water back, surrounding yourself within its ring, shaking from the cold.
"You're so serious, aren't you?" questioned Mineta, a little curious and yet tempted to throw you off with his charm.
It only chilled you further.
As soon as he asked, Mineta charged towards you with reckless abandonment, preparing his move to rush past and evade your hold. With another shiver up your spine, you threw all you had into a giant wave, hoping to push him away and stop every ball he had available in the rush. You had witnessed this at the start of the exercise, halting a few of your classmates in the trap, or so you called it in your head. A mighty roar of the waves crashed towards Mineta, shutting your eyes in concentration to keep your control in check while the chill rushed through your bones. You were pushing your limits with a clap of your hands, only drowning in the deep sound of the water around you.
The cold ran through your hands and your limbs, feeling the numbness in your digits and succumbing to it slowly through your chest. Except a warmth took hold of your skin, hugging into you across your chest until through the numbness in your legs, a weight replaced it. A minor comfort that helped until your eyes trailed onto your chest, finding Mineta stuck there, attached to your outfit and his head pressed against your heart.
Your eyes filled with dread the tighter and closer he nuzzled his head into your chest, dazed and yet hopelessly in bliss.
"Guys?!" you screeched, eyeing around the grounds for any of your team members. "Get this thing off of me!"
"This is heaven," cooed Mineta, still nuzzling and almost drooling by the mouth.
As much as you wished to try and pry him off from you, the prospect of having your hands stuck on him was a risk you weren't willing to take. You couldn't move, feeling his body wriggle around and fully enamoured in the position he found himself in. Whatever revulsion you felt earlier turned into utter horror, unable to contain the feel of him against you and the cold that slowly spread through your bones.
This wasn't how it was meant to end.
The screams of Mineta drowned the dread from your thoughts before an intense heat wave burst onto the scene, feeling him pulled away from your outfit and releasing you from the perverted grip he held earlier. What was once his body against yours was replaced by a warmer gentler hold, pulling you into his body while it immediately warmed your core. The sight of Mineta flying away with trailing smoke from his small cape caught your eye, smouldering in what were flames that incinerated his costume before he rolled away, encumbered from the surprise attack. A quick glance next to you revealed none other than the student you hoped to work with one day - Shouto Todoroki - with his hand still smouldering from a blast, holding you to him in his grip.
The look in his eye was intense, fueled by a smouldering rage while he stared at Mineta a distance away. He needed to intervene, holding back his frustration and vexation over the course of the exercise. Witnessing all the advances Mineta had tried to pull at first were harmless, but grabbing hold of you and taking advantage of the situation was uncalled for.
He just acted.
"Todoroki, get off the battlefield," called Aizawa from the sidelines, snapping Todoroki from his blind rage. It was a surprise how quickly his expressions changed in a blink of an eye, turning his now nonchalant gaze onto his homeroom teacher.
"And you, you're disqualified," announced Vlad, pointing a finger towards you still in Todoroki's arms.
"What?!" you questioned, stepping back only to realise that you were now stuck to Todoroki thanks to Mineta's pop off hairballs. A heavy sigh, both frustrated and exhausted, escaped your lips, surrendering to the verdict cast upon you.
Thankfully Todoroki didn't pay any mind, however, for the rest of the battle, you dealt with having to sit on his lap while still stuck to him, embarrassed by the circumstances from both classes.
