"For sure she is not coming..." I mumbled and looked at the attendance list and was about to mark out a cross when Joan walked in briskly with her office clothes.
"Good morning Ms Francis." she greeted with a smile.
"Oh... Good morning. Why didn't you-"
"Uh... I forgot to tell you that I went on a holiday with some guy and got cheated by him in the end... He stole my phone and I got to buy a new one. Here, this is my new phone number, update on your phone please and delete that old contact away. Thanks." Joan spoke in her fake British accent and she show a pissed off look on her face as she passed to me a slip of paper with her new handphone number written on it.
I took the paper from her hand and felt that there was something suspiciously wrong. Why did the guy that she "dated" with called me up and spoke to me threateningly? Why did he said that I have done a regretful thing to her? Who is the her? What is he talking about? I couldn't think straight...
Just then, I saw Joan and a few colleagues chuckling as they caught glimpses of me. I strained my eyes to look at them and tried to see what they were doing. It happen to be that they were holding photographs of places of attractions. Two figures were standing side by side and seemed to be dating on that day when the photographs was taken.
I decided to focus on the case and looked back into my computer. Emails of reports accumulated until there was about 50 of them. It has been a month since of happened and it was the first case I have to solve.
However, I could not stop wondering who the guy was and decided to call the number again. There wasn't any answer at first. Then,
"Yes again. What is it that you want Ms Francis?" the speaker from the other side of the line answered.
"May I ask who are you?"
"Nothing for you to know. I am just a guy an-"
"Why did you steal Joan's phone? Don't you know stealing is a crime? I am going to ask Joan whats your name and report it t-"
"The person holding unto phone 98541345 is currently not available. Please try again later. Thank you. The person holdin-" the guy hung up.
I pressed 'end call' on the screen of my phone and called out to Joan.
"Ya, what? Any problem?" Joan shouted back.
"I need to ask you something. Come here for a while."
Ring! Ring! "Um... Could you wait Kily. I have a phone call here. Give me a minute." Joan ran to the toilet nearby after finished speaking.
