Within the earthen depths,in the reaches of a
stone sanctuary, the gentle hums of breathing and quiet snores bounced through the cave walls. The air had grown unbearably humid and sticky with the seasons rain drawing even more moisture than normal.

Each sleeping cat was laying as far apart as possible to achieve any amount of escape from the heavy, wet air clinging to their pelts.Crouched above the smooth cave floor upon a low peaked rise,a white tortoiseshell she-cat swept her tail anxiously back and forth, her movements almost silent as her tail wisped against the damp stone. Her tail fur felt unbearably more soaked by the second but she wouldn't stop, she had to let her stress out somehow and at least her tail swishing was practically silent.

Breaking the relative stillness, large thumping pawsteps made their way to the tortoiseshell she-cat's perch with three sets of quieter and quicker paced pawsteps right behind. A dark, fox colored she-cat lead the little group.Leaning her neck down, the dark she cat muttered to the perched she-cat's ear, too quiet for anyone awake to hear.

"We're prepared to make our way out, whenever you're ready we can begin the trek"

The red she-cat turned back to the three kits, now yawning and nearly ready to fall back into their needed sleep. The tortoiseshell she-cat smiled only slightly and raised herself to her paws, making her way to her kits to gently pat them each on the head with her soft, damp tail, barley keeping them awake.

After a deep breath that she holds in far longer than needed, she releases a brief sigh and speaks.
"I'm ready Cloversong.I don't see Echostep,are you sure he's ready?
The tortoiseshell she-cat swept her gaze over the slippery stone floor to the nests and crevices her clan-mates rested in,the cave was bathed in still tones of black, like raven feathers with no rays of moonlight reaching their underground camp and the swirled dark tabby was nowhere she could see.

Cloversong grazed her tail over the tortoiseshell she-cat's back to ease her worry.

"No need to be concerned Driftmist ,he is making his way to the entrance as we speak to look ahead"

Driftmist gravely nodded to reply.A rolling, hot frustration grew in her chest at the fact of life that her clan must send look outs simply to be sure it is safe for anyone to leave the caves. After a deep breath, her frustration subsided, more important things were in need of care at this time.

Driftmist turned her sight to Cloversong, who was already watching for her next comment.

"Let us begin then"

Her short furred tortoiseshell pelt brushed against her companions own dark and well-groomed pelt as she turned back to her kits.Their eyes, each still the natural blue all kits were at their age, watched her drowsily.Holding her sight of them for a few mere moments, her heart wrenched and felt as though it was clawing at her, realizing she would likely never see what each of her beautiful kit's wondering eyes would grow to look like.
