Janet
It had been a couple weeks since I had personally seen Toni. I put Michael in charge at the warehouse until I could get back, because I couldn't work until I knew that Toni was safe. It was something about how she said goodbye to me after we went to the grocery store and I needed to know what it was. I managed to find everywhere she needed her bills paid and paid them up for the next couple of months. Her rent, gas, lights, water, everything that was past due, I paid. I know she knows because it's obvious. I had to protect her. That's why I was sitting outside her apartment building watching through the window. Of course I was sitting in my other car to make sure Kenny didn't know it was me. I come here almost every night to watch. It's something eerie going on in that apartment. Toni still went to work everyday but Gil told me she was different. She wasn't as sweet and bubbly as she was. She didn't come out of her classroom to conversate with the others. She didn't interact with the students the same way. Even Stacee said that she was different. That mixed with what I felt let me know something was really wrong.
Knock. Knock. I looked over and saw Gil knocking on my window. I unlocked the door and let him in. "Anything happen?" He handed me the meal he picked up and a drink as well as some snacks.
"No, he's doing that dumb thing where he looks at those music sheets. I've only seen the back of her head."
"When was that?"
"Hours ago. I haven't seen her through any of the windows and I didn't see her leave, so she's still in there."
"That's weird. Toni and I have talked a lot. She loves to dance around and you see that thing on her wall?"
"Yeah."
"That's an art project she's been working on. She said she works on it every night. It's something close to her heart."
"But she hasn't touched that in days, probably the whole two weeks."
"Then something is terribly wrong. She told me she started that with or for someone close to her heart. She almost broke down in tears talking about it. For her not to work on it is really bad." We sat and watched the building a little longer. Eventually we started to doze off but were quickly awakened by the car shakened after a loud thump. We jumped up to see Kenny staring right at them. I hopped out quickly, followed by Gil.
"What the hell are y'all doing watching my apartment?"
"Toni's apartment and I'm here because you're doing something to her."
"Oh really and if I was to be doing something to her, how are you going to stop me?"
"Oh trust, you don't want to see me when I get upset."
"Me either, girly. I'll cut you right in your sweet cooch. Don't try me."
"That's some pretty big balls you got but trust...." I got in his face. "...mines are bigger. Much bigger." Kenny was taken aback. He looked down as I adjusted myself.
"Wait. Hold on. You got a......"
"Yes. A dick. Pretty big too. So run along before I bend you over and make you my bitch and don't you ever step to me like that again." I headed back to my door. "Oh and when I find out what you've done to Toni, I will be handling you myself." I looked in the window and saw her sitting down, looking sad. My heart broke a little.
"Oh wait, were you seeing her?"
"No. I respect her too much to treat her like a hookup."
"Good." I stepped back to him.
"Oh but trust. I will have her when I save her from you and believe me, I will make sure she is pleased in a way you were never able to." He looked angry.
