Can’t you hear the Creeping Bell?

The din of silence deep in hell

From whence the screams of moral men

Sound the call to die again.

And when the Creeping Bell does ring

The noise of nothing, deafening,

Tis with their eyes that they shall hear

The sound of shadows growing near.

And there within the Ever-dark

The Quiet whispers, deep and stark

And tears the ears from off their head

To keep in silence what is said.

But lo there comes a quiet voice

That gives the moral man a choice:

To lie and bleed with nothing gain’d

Or stand and live, but stand insane.

And with this choice they die again

Then with their voices join the din

The chorus calls to all in hell:

Can’t you hear the Creeping Bell?
