Sheriff Burke and Deputy Dewey Riley showed up quickly after I called. "Do you want us to do a sweep of the house?" The Sheriff asked me after noting down the story. I nodded my head. "Dewey! Come here and put your gun away, boy." Dewey Riley is Tatum's not so bright, older brother. He's a sweetheart but childish in a lot of ways.
"Yes sir." He scampered up to his superior.
"Check the rest of the house. If the perpetrator is still here, I want to know immediately." The Sheriff ordered. "Meanwhile, do you have someone you want to call."
Yeah, my boyfriend. But he isn't answering his phone.
"No. My parents should be home soon. I just want whoever is doing this to get caught."
"We'll tell you as soon as we get the phone records."
"Sheriff, we need you at the Becker residence." The Sheriff's walkie said. "This is some serious stuff."
"Is there something wrong with Casey?" I asked.
"We got a few noise complaints for screaming so we sent a unit that way. I guess a party got out of hand." The Sheriff put a hand on my shoulder and squeezed it. "Dewey, let's get out of here!"
"Got it sir! Ma'am, there is no need for alarm, your house is all clear." Dewey rocked back and forth on his heels in front of me before he chased after his boss. Without someone there I started to panic again and ran out too.
"Wait!" I shouted. "Let me stay in the back of the car please, please, please. Officer, I really don't want to be alone." I explained.
"Well, ma'am. It is clear and if we need to detain-" Dewey was about to turn me away but the Sheriff opened the door.
"Oh, shut it, Riley. Come on in, Miss Weathers. I doubt we'll have a crazed killer to catch tonight." I climbed into the back of the cruiser and sat in the middle. I felt safer knowing my stalker couldn't get me while two cops sat in the front.
Sheriff was very very wrong. Even from the back of the cruiser I could see a thick substance everywhere. Blood. There were two victims. Both were covered so I couldn't see who, but I could tell they were both gruesome deaths. There was a large blood stain on the cloth covering the victim that was in the back yard. The stain was probably lightly smaller than my own torso. One of the EMS workers lifted the sheet just enough so they could look. Unfortunately, I could too.
"He was gutted." I deadpanned. It's been less than 12 hours since I'd seen the sight. Randy invited me to be around his friends before classes start, Stu included. They were talking about different rumors about the victims. "Steven Orth and Casey Becker were brutally murdered. I saw Steve's body. His stomach was opened up, guts spilling out." I looked up gauging their reactions. Tatum and Sidney looked pale, Randy looked shocked, Billy was intrigued, and Stu wasn't even readable. He usually wore his emotions but this time too many emotions were shown I couldn't tell what they were. Sorry? Miserable? Pumped? Hurt? Sad? Maybe a glint of excitement but from what, I don't know. "And Casey? I could see her hanging when we got there. Same thing, guts spilling out of her torso."
"You were there?" Tatum was bewildered.
"Yeah, I was with Sheriff Burke and your brother."
"Why?" Stu asked.
"I got a call last night. Before the massacre." I looked at Stu for any kind of support. He tried to subtly smile at me. "Someone was in my house. They knew what I was wearing, used my phone in the hallway, and used my window for their escape." I spoke. Billy looked to be hiding a smile. He's fucking psychotic. "I called the police and while Dewey and the Sheriff were at my house, they got the call for Casey. I didn't want to be alone, so I asked to go with them." Randy grabbed my hand and squeezed it. I clung onto him as all of the emotions I'd been holding back finally showed themselves. "I kept the Sheriff from getting there in time." I sobbed into his shirt. He held me close to him. I hoped that Stu would've visited me last night so I could do this to him, but he didn't. Randy was the closest thing I had to a public friend. Maybe Stu would realize how hurt I was feeling since his absence. "I was terrified of a stalker while Steve and Casey where being murdered."
"What about that guy you'd been seeing? Where was he?" Randy asked softly.
"I don't know. I tried to call him, but he's been ignoring me all week." I told the truth. "Not to mention I was threatened to stay away from him." I added.
"What? By whom? Did he have a girlfriend you didn't know about?" Sidney asked. She was brushing her fingers through my hair.
"No, no, no. It's just complicated. He wants us to stay private, but I guess he told his friend or something and they don't like me too much." I rambled. I looked passed Sidney to glare at Billy, Stu also looked at Billy in shock. Billy just kept glaring back at me. I will ruin everything you have Billy Loomis.
"What a hypocrite." Randy hissed.
"Hypocrite? He's a complete dick." Tatum joined in. "And I don't think you should've done anything different. I doubt the police would've gotten to the Beckers any faster if you never called."
"Yeah, he could've gone back to your house if you stayed." Sidney added.
"Yeah." I whispered.
"Sooo, your sister is back in town." Tatum changed the subject.
"Don't remind me. She's the last person I need butting into my life right now." I could see her from here. Across the lawn, microphone in hand. After her famous book my life became hell. People avoided me, harassed me, threatened my life. Highschool couldn't just bully me, no, they had to take it a whole new level. I couldn't even drive without kids forcing me into car accidents. Once my brake lines were cut, another time three cars surrounded me and lead me into a tree. It was either the tree or one of them.
Gale caught my eye and grinned at me. I rolled my eyes before returning my attention to my company. "I'm going inside. Class will start soon."
I was the only one not questioned and everyone seemed to realize that. People stared left and right whispering to each other.
"Did she pay off the cops?"
"I heard she was at Casey's house."
"No, no. She spent her night in a cell."
"Did anyone else hear her and Casey arguing the other day? Is that why she did it?"
It was definitely a twist from the usual talk... or lack of talk depending on the day. Most people seemed to think the same thing. I killed Casey and Steve.
