Alya cradled Manon in her arms, and I walked over to stand beside them again just as Ladybug appeared in front of us.
"I'll get you out of there." She called. We both nodded, expecting nothing less.
"Let's wire cut this icy cake!' She shouted, flinging her yo-yo to wrap around the iceberg. She pulled it, but it only slipped off, flying back and hitting her in the head. "Or not...on to plan B."
Alya put Manon down, and she pressed her tiny hands against the ice as Ladybug ran up to meet her.
"Don't worry. Everything's going to be ok."
"Where's Marinette?" She asked in a small, scared voice. I fought the urge to shoot her an apologetic look.
"She hasn't forgotten about you, Manon." She said, crouching down to be at eye-level with her.
"How did you know my name?"
"I-uh-Marinette told me," She stumbled, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly, "She's coming right back, ok?"
Marinette put her hand on the ice, and Manon reached up to place hers over it. Alya crouched down with them, shooting Ladybug a thumbs up. She turned her gaze on me and I nodded, assuring her I was ok before fishing my cell phone out of my pocket and typing out a text to Adrien.
I'm trapped in an iceberg underneath the carousel. Lady Lion won't be making an appearance. Ladybug knows we're here, so everything is going to be fine.
Are you sure? Ladybug and Chat Noir are supposed to protect you.
I'm fine. And I'm sure they will, after they find the akuma victim and de-akumatize them. We'll meet up after? Please be careful out there.
When am I not careful? You be careful too, ok? I'll see you soon.
It was just as I read this that the sky went black, and a strike of purple lighting flashed in the center of the city. Manon whimpered in fear and Alya crouched down, picking her up once again.
"Hey, I know! Why don't we play a game to pass the time?" I suggested.
"Perfect! I know just the one." Alya set Manon down at the edge of the carousel, sitting down beside her and beginning to teach her a hand-clapping game as the fire department showed up and began trying to break the ice with axes. I sighed as my phone went off again, this time reading my mother's name.
El? I saw on the news that there's been another Akuma attack. Is everything alright?
Yes, everything is fine. Akuma attacks are practically like breathing to the people of Paris. Plus, this means everyone will be too distracted to pay too much attention to me, so this might actually be a blessing in disguise.
Maybe. But you're safe, right?
I winced, knowing full well that I was about to lie to my mother.
Yes, I'm safe. Its all going to be ok, I promise. I've already been through a couple of these, so I know how everything works. You just worry about helping Dad get better.
Right. About that. We had that Doctor's appointment this morning.
Right, yes! What did they say?
"Hey, no fair!" I looked up as Manon started whining. "You always win! You ne-" Her words were cut off by the ice creaking menacingly, and I walked out from beneath the carousel to see that the icicles on the roof of the dome were becoming larger and sharper. "What was that?"
"Its...the big Goblin King! He ate too much and split his shirt!" Alya let out a fake evil laugh and began chasing the girl around the Carousel, only to get distracted again when the icicles only got bigger.
