I Wish I'd Never

Received indoctrination from media
Friends, pastors, the like,
Believed chivalry,
The rotting-fleshed zombie,
Held keys to every woman’s heart.

That adding flowers and candy to the
“Will you go out with me?” equation
Made it equal
“Absolutely.”

Internalizing the pseduo-prostitutionalization
Spending money on women made
Gravity work a little harder on their
Unmentionables and
Inhibitions.

Tricked into composing sonnets for women who couldn’t give a DAMN about Poetry,
unless you put it to a
Pulsating beat they can
Twerk to.

Yes,
Perhaps instead of taking
“Be a Gentleman 101”
Where the professor wore clothes picked by his wife,
And the TA sang R&B songs in the shower,
I should have registered for
“Real ‘izm 225”
With the professor donning shoes of
Alligator hide and deafening suits,
And TAs with T&A on full display,
Calling the instructor
“Daddy.”

Sometimes, I wish I didn’t have
Friends teaching me anything.
Rather than the wise old owl,
I should have learned from the
Dumb-ass ostrich,
Burying its head at
Knowledge, and all the power it
Comes with.
What’s more,
I’d give anything to escape slavery of
My own observationism,
Not knowing all these things,
Still adhering to the Mario Bros. and
Zelda fantasies;
Where women are prizes won at the end of quests
Spoils for the kindly hero.

However,
Logic and realism
Extracted indoctrination,
Awakening me to truth of
Trophies jumping into villainous mitts
Of their own volition,
Dirtied,
Then sent away to heroes,
Spoiled,
While blackguards split sides echo.

I have discarded the mask and cape,
Refusing to wage war with someone’s
    Right to choose
    Inertia becoming activism.

At times,
I wish I never learned anything

... But no one should dwell within ignorance.
