Fukushū e no kōgeki

Chapter 1: The Beginning

The year 843...

Tano lay there underneath his favorite tree, watching the clouds. He usually took naps but today his eyes just wouldn't stay shut. He looked down, picking a flower in the process when he heard a thud come from behind. Hesitantly he got up and turned around, seeing a girl laying there with no movement.

"Hey, are you alright?!" He asked with a worried expression on his face.

The girl did not give any response, until a few moments later. She supported herself to get up with both of her hands, in a sort of push-up movement. She just nodded in response, with a scar on her face that the treebranch had given her whilst she was falling. Turns out she fell from the tree when she was trying to sit on the branch, she had leaves on her hair. It looked very funny and pitiful at the same time..
Tano saw the leaves, to which he brushed off. This girl, wasn't so used to affection which made her very confused and made her flustered at the same time. What caught Tano's attention was the girls eyes, looking towards his beret that he was wearing, it was as if she really liked it for some reason.

"You like it?" He asked with a smile.

She nodded slightly and with that he took it off his own head and placed it on hers.

"Consider it a gift from me to you, it looks better on you anyways." Tano said with a slight laugh.

They sat there in silence for a minute before Tano decided to speak up.

"Well, my names Tano. What's yours?" He asked.

She hesitated before replying "My names Mika-".

Tano smiled widely. "That's a cool name! Say, would you like to be friends?"

Before she even had time to think the word yes came out of her mouth. He jumped up and down happily, while spinning with a huge smile on his face. When he looked back at her he realized that the cut she had across her face began to bleed.

"Here come with me, my father can patch up that scratch." He stated while grabbing her arm.

Practically dragging her while running they quickly reached his house. He sat her down on a chair and waited next to her. Soon, his mother walked up and noticed her face.

"Oh my, are you alright dear?" She asked.

"Momma, this is Mika. She fell from a tree so I brought her back to see if father could take a look." Tano stated.

"Well it's nice to meet you Mika. I'm Carla, Tano's mother. Let me go get my husband to take a look at your scratch." She smiled and walked off to the basement.

Eventually, Tano's parents walked up the stairs and towards the two children.

"Hello there, my wife tells me that your name is Mika? My name is Grisha Yeager, I'm a doctor. Mind if I take a look at your cut?" He states while looking down at Mika.

She nods her head and with that, Grisha kneels down and inspects her cut.

"That doesn't look too good, what happened to cause this?" Grisha asks.

"She fell from a tree branch and I think a branch hit her face on the way down." Tano replies.

Grisha pulls out his medical supplies and asks if she is fine with him patching her up. She nods again and he quickly gets to work. Tano sits next to her restlessly hoping that his father does a good job. It didn't take long for Grisha to finish. He stood up and smiled towards her.

"How does that feel?" He asks.

"It feels better, thank you-" Mika says quietly.

"I'm glad, I must get back to work now though so it was nice to meet you Mika." He nods and walks back to the basement.

"It's getting pretty dark, your parents must be worried sick. You should probably start heading home, dear." Carla says.

Mika looks down slightly. "Yes, I'll head back now-"

"Hopefully I see you soon Mik!" Tano says before giving her a hug.

She stands there in shock, joy filling her heart as she wasn't used to affection. She was overly flustered as well because she had just been saved and hugged by some random boy.

"Did he really hug me?!" She thought to herself as she began to walk back home. She looked back for a moment to see him standing at his door, waving at her. She waved back and continued her walk home.
