Summary: Just a kid on their own during a comfy rainy night.

Warnings: None! Shocking, I know.

Word Count: 413 words

Author's Notes: This is a little thing I wrote in 2018 to reflect the night I'd been having at the time to soothe any lingering anxieties before bed. I'm posting it here because I don't wanna lose this story because it a kind of comfort thing now (even tho how clumsy it is), but I have room on my tablet oof.

Also the person I mention as a partner in this fic is no longer a partner and have changed pronouns after we broke up, so I did some editing to refer to them as my partner with they them pronouns. I kept it in however because I wanted to keep it as untouched as possible.

She cuddled the fluffiest pillow she owned close to her chest, curling up in the dim light of her bedroom. A gentle amber light from her lamp cast on the pastel walls, over the soft bed and over the frame of the girl who lay there. She sighed, breathing in the calmness of the room. Everything finally seemed to be going right. Her schoolwork and exams were going great, her partner was available to meet up with her on the weekend for their anniversary, and no major problems were plastered onto her schedule.

Her eyes fluttered open at the pitter patter of something hitting her window. Rain, she realised with a smile. As the rain fall picked up, so did the sound, forever soft. The gentle drops hitting the window making a calming familiar rhythm for her, remembering the sleepless nights were the weather outside was her only companion.

She stood, wrapping her blanket around her as she stepped over the many notebooks scattered over the floor and pushed the curtain to the side, balancing herself on the window sill. She watched the droplets fall onto the window and stay for a moment or two, as if to say hello to her before slowly sliding down. She pressed her forehead against the cool glass. She give a little smile, waving hello at them to return their greeting before they were unable to hang onto their spot any longer. She wasn't afraid of anyone seeing her. No one in her little corner of town was ever awake at 2am.

She stood and stepped back, pulling open the window and sitting on her desk chair beside it. The gentle breeze softly whispered into her ears, making her giggle at the tickle it left behind. She pressed her arms on the wooden window sill, resting her chin on the back of her hands. Her vision blurred for a moment as she yawned loudly, the calm making her sleepy. She resisted for another few minutes, before finally relenting and standing, pushing her window over and locking it shut with a click! She stretched her arms above her head as she yawned again, before collapsing onto her bed, curling in on herself again as she grabbed the nearest plush toy to her. It was the birthday gift from her partner. She smiled wider and cuddled it to her chest, pulling the blankets over her. With a sigh, she allowed the calming noises outside to lull her to sleep.
