Alma Madrigal woke up one night with a loud knocking at Casita's door. She found a young woman carrying a small child in her arms, drenched by the rain falling heavily from the sky.

"Señiora Madrigal, please, could you help me?" She cried.

"Of course, come in, come in." Alma poured the woman, whose name was Eliza, a cup of tea and listened intently to her story.

" Well, my husband and I were planning to travel the world together, until the attack. We ran with the others, but our friends were sadly killed, leaving their month old daughter in our care." Eliza sniffled and Alma gave her a handkerchief which she excepted gratefully and continued her story.

"Well, Diego and I knew we couldn't take care of her, so we thought that you might be able to look after her?"

Alma rocked the baby in her arms and felt a strong connection with her already.

"May I ask, who were her parents?" She pressed.

"Zara and Nico Rojas." Eliza replied. The other woman hummed in thought. She already had three children of her own, so what difference would one more make?

"Señiora? You don't have to take her. Diego and I could try our best for her but you-"

"Eliza, I would be honored to take care of the Rojas's daughter. You don't need to worry about her." The woman sighed in relief.

"Gracias Señiora! I hope you don't mind me asking, what will you call her?"

Alma thought for a moment, then smiled.

"Maria." She said confidently.

----- A LITTLE LESS THAN FIVE YEARS LATER -----

" Maria! Maria! You have to see this! Maria!" Pepa and Julieta shook the girl a little too hard and made her fall out of bed.

"Pepa! Julieta! Maria are you hurt?" Bruno whisper - yelled at his sister's, rushing to the older girls side.

"Ay, Muchachas! Bruno, cariño, I'm fine. There's no need to fuss." Maria smiled. The girls apologised, but quickly started giggling at the concern that their brother had for the girl.

" Anyway, Maria! There's a new door outside !" Pepa yelped.

" It looks so cool!" Julieta agreed. Bruno vigorously nodded in agreement. The triplets pulled a still tired girl out of the nursery. Across the porch, there was a glowing, gold door. The group gaped at it, admiring it's swirling patterns.

"Excuse me, but what are you four doing out of bed?" A stern voice came from behind the children.

"Mamí!" Julieta cried.

"Well, we w- were j-j-just, umm... Pepa? Can you explain?" The only male stuttered, hiding behind Maria. She and Pepa sighed.

"So, Mamí, We all heard a noise, apart from Maria, who sleeps through everything!" She pulled tongues at the mentioned girl who playfully returned the favor. "Anyway, we went to look and there was this cool door, so we woke up Maria and now we're here." Alma, or Mamí, raised her eyebrows.

"We're sorry Mamí. It won't happen again." Julieta apologized.

" Oh I think it might." Alma replied.

"The children looked up confused at the woman.

"Casita and I have had a talk, and it seems that you all will be granted a gift with your door. Maria will get hers tomorrow since she turns five slightly before you three, but you should have yours in a week or so." The children gaped, as the woman smiled brightly down at them.

"Woah." Bruno replied, this jaw dropping.

"Right, you all need your sleep! Tomorrow night, Maria could get her gift." Alma turned away, leaving the kids to exchange looks. They rushed into bed, getting to sleep as fast as humanly possible in anticipation for the next day.
