Optimus Prime wasn't an infrequent occupant of the dreams and thoughts of Megatron. At first, he'd come along in glimpses, in nightmares, but now? Something had changed.

Megatron and his team were in the middle of fighting five Autobots and an organic, those of whom he didn't know the name of aside from Optimus Prime- the knowledge that Megatron had of him and his name was unbeknownst to anyone else, of course. The Decepticon leader had been slamming Optimus Prime for a few minutes, while the small yellow Autobot and the large green Autobot were trying to deal with Blitzwing, the human and the medic working against Starscream and simultaneously trying to evacuate the citizens of Detroit.

Megatron had been unusually focused on talking to Optimus that day, the two of them exchanging more and more banter with each interaction they had.

And... It had ended horribly. Megatron wasn't sure when or how or why, but somehow, he had changed. What had once been a cold, shriveled up spark in his chamber had grown enough to make him show mercy when it came to Optimus Prime- right when he'd obtained the advantage, straddling the Prime and pinning his arms down to the ground with one large servo, he'd hesitated.

Optimus looked a little too soft in that moment; all sky blue optics full of something Megatron had never seen before, red cheeks, and pretty lip plates.

But that hesitation had been enough for him to get kicked off of Optimus and into the nearest walls by one of the red and blue bot's pesky teammates.

It was early afternoon when they finally got back to the base, beaten up and with no Autobots or All Spark fragments in hand, the group of repair bots having escaped from them with light damage.

The moment Megatron got home, he was ignoring any questions from his team, ignoring the notification telling him to refuel, and failing to ignore the thoughts of Optimus Prime that flew through his processor. He got to his room and plopped down onto his berth, staring up at the ceiling.

Of course, he was never lucky enough to get any alone time, so he wasn't surprised when there was a loud knock on his door just nanokliks later.

With a huff, he got up and moved to where his throne sat in front of his monitor so he could sit down and look all official-like.

"Come in."

Unsurprisingly, it was Lugnut who came in, looking uncharacteristically meek as he held a humorously tiny plate with a cup of energon tea; likely flavored with cinnamon and vanilla, just like Megatron liked it. That was something he appreciated about Lugnut- how he cared so much, knew him so well. It was nice to have someone around who wasn't serving him in hopes of taking his position like Starscream or wanting protection like Blitzwing or furthering a cause like Soundwave, but someone who genuinely admired him for who he was and wanted to do what they could for him.

He wondered if Optimus could be someone like that, too.

"My leige, are you feeling alright?" Lugnut inquired with a tilt of his head. "I've come with a drink for you- it's hot, so if you've fallen ill, it'll help. I can sample it if you'd like. Shall I call Shockwave to assist you?"

The sampling was a precaution he'd set after a few sloppy assassination attempts from Starscream with poison that would corrode all of his circuits, but unbeknownst to Lugnut, Megatron valued him too much to allow him to be at risk of such a thing and always purposefully had other cons that he didn't care as much about sample his drinks. Regardless, the only ones around right now were Lugnut and Blitzwing, and Megatron was sure that Starscream was done with whatever schemes he had planned for that day, so he wasn't especially worried.

"I'm not ill, Lugnut. None of that will be necessary, but you may set the energon on my desk. Thank you."

It was rare for him to thank others, and honestly, he hadn't meant to, but he'd slipped up, and now Lugnut was looking at him as if he'd grown another helm whilst walking over to his desk and setting his tea down.
