Come morning Sami immediately asked Lynx when she'd returned - she had been worried about her, but Lynx couldn't bring herself to admit the truth to her friend and instead just shrugged. Fortunately Sam knew better than to push her. No one else in her house payed any attention to her - why would they? As far as they knew everything was fine. The exception was at the breakfast table - Their prefect Terrell shot her a worried glance but she just smiled back and he turned away. That day they had classes with ravenclaws and hufflepuffs, and while none of them were openly friendly towards her they weren't overtly unfriendly either.
The following day at double potions she expected to have to deal with Potter and Weasley but they didn't pay her any attention during the class.
Charms that evening with the ravenclaws was unexpectedly fun - partners had been picked for them today and she'd been paired with Domonique. To her pleasant surprise the blonde girl was more than civil, and the two joked around as they practiced the softening charm spongify on their textbooks, turning them rubbery and squishy. Following the class Domonique joined Lynx and Sami on their way to the great hall when they ran into the blue haired head boy.
"Hello Domonique." He smiled easily, his gaze sliding to the two slytherins. "Who are your friends?" Although Domonique seemed a little confused - she knew that he'd met Lynx on the train - she introduced them. "This is Lynx Malfoy and Samantha Zabini." She introduced.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Teddy Lupin." He extended a hand and Sami took it.
"Nice to meet you too. You can call me Sam or Sami, I don't really like my full name."
He chuckled at this, saying that he'd remember. He shook Lynx's hand next, and she couldn't help but smile. She wished that she'd thanked him properly before, but something about the look on his face made her think that he understood.
"I'm glad you've made such good friends Domonique." He said happily as he joined them walking towards the hall.
"Yes, I am too." She agreed, which made Lynx and Sami grin. "Teddy, could you do orange today?" Lynx didn't understand. With a shrug his vibrant blue hair turned a shocking bright orange and both slytherins stared.
"I'm a metamorphmagus." Teddy grinned as his hair next became a violent pink. "I can change my appearance at will."
Both girls were in awe, and Lynx was grateful that he'd explained so that she didn't have to ask.
"That's so cool!" Sami cooed, obviously jealous.
"Yeah, I have my mother to thank for that." He grinned.
Something about his name was bothering Lynx but she couldn't place it. Still, she was sure she'd heard the name Lupin somewhere before. As they entered the great hall they waved goodbye to Teddy and Domonique and the two went to the slytherin table where they were welcomed by their usual trio of friends.
Following that incident life at Hogwarts seemed to improve. No longer did Lynx feel as if people were constantly judging her. Classes were going smoothly and the following Friday during herbology the blonde hufflepuff boy who had been avoiding her joined them at their work station along with a blonde girl. They introduced themselves as Oliver and Marcella Watson - they were twins. Together the four of them picked asphodel flowers and moly plants from a section of flowers. Even though she knew they were potions ingredients Lynx couldn't help but think they were beautiful, the asphodels resembling a white lily and the moly's blue leaves in stark contrast to its black stem. After picking them they left some whole while separating the pedals from others; these would help to restock professor Nott's potions ingredients for the next term.
