"I love you too! okay see you then!" I exclaimed into the phone too excitedly. After I hang up, I look at the clock. The time reads half-past noon. "shit" I mumble under my breath, realizing I only have an hour and a half to achieve the impossible. It may sound like an over-dramatization, but baking cookies is a very difficult task for me. As I shove all the ingredients into the bowl, I ponder on the conversation I had with Jake yesterday evening.
---
"C'mon babe, you can't bake for shit" Jake mumbled sleepily as he flipped his pillow revealing the slightly cooler underside. I gave my best hurt look, but it didn't last long with him looking at me with that cute face of his. "I can absolutely make cookies. I'm not a child that's incapable of everything!" I exclaimed, jerking myself upright with a look of determination upon my face. "I'm gonna make cookies and they'll be great." I said under my breath. "Yep, whatever you say" Jake exhaled, burying his face deeper into the pillow. I groaned discontentedly and just as I opened my mouth to argue, I was stopped by a muffled voice coming from the other side of the bed. "Shhh I'm sleeping" he whispered. I laid back down to my original position and I was immediately engulfed by his arms. "I'm... sleeping" he yawned as we both drifted to sleep.

After the cookies were finally in the oven - note to self: remember to pre-heat it next time - I sat down and mindlessly scrolled through the tumblr. I only noticed that 25 minutes had passed when a loud beeping noise startled me. I ran in the kitchen to find the oven pouring smoke out of the gaps around the door. The fucking cookies had caught fire. "just my fucking luck" I thought to myself, as I ran around the house opening doors and windows. By this time, my neighbours had called the fire department.

As I stood outside by the big red truck, I saw Jakes car pulling up to the curb behind me. He got out and as he ran over, a look of concern crossed his face. I was greeted with the standard "OHMYGODWHATHAPPENEDAREYOUOKAY" before being pulled into a warm tight hug. "I'm fine but uh.. you were right" I mumbled, looking at my shoes. Jake raised an eyebrow, pushing me to elaborate. "I can't bake for shit.." I laughed, bringing my gaze up to look at him. Instead of the usual expression he has when he's right, he blushed. This was followed by an adorable laughing fit as he pushed me around and called me a potato. After his laugh had settled to an occasional giggle, he wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close. "Alex, I love you, but please let me do the baking next time" I chuckled and nodded, grasping the back of his neck and pulling him into a quick, sweet kiss. This is how it was supposed to be.
