-second pov.

you walked through the halls, small lighting illuminated from the colored panes of the windows, blanketing your shoes with color and hollow, meaningless cold.
that, and your steps echoed through the halls, as you used the sound to firmly hold onto the attention and focus you had. you were, of course, bringing coffee to your lord's residence, which was suited for work. your lord, as you knew, had a heavy preference for coffee over tea, however, for official meetings or public gatherings, he drank tea to give a much more professional appearance, and in turn, reassured his citizens of his power, along with capability.

you reached the door, it's sole standing and exquisite chocolate frontier made suitable for a ruler. you knocked, and a voice of authority answered firmly,

"come in."

you pushed the door open, and shut it behind you, soon, blocking any apparent noise from outside. dark cacao cookie, your pre-mentioned lord, was giving you a gaze that spoke of his gladness for your arrival as you set the coffee down. you looked upon him in concerned, as he had bags that cradled his eyes, like the eclipse of the celestial body that many named the moon. you went past the infamous sword, which rested on the wall, a luxury to many just to graze the walls of dark cacao's abode.

you looked over his shoulder to glance what was placed on his desk, which, of course, was paperwork, his neatly folded cape, and his crown.

"are you alright, my lord?" you asked, stepping away and keeping distance, as you watched him drink the concoctions coffee beans, sugar, and minimal milk. he simply smiled, however, then began to speak,

"please do not worry over me. it is my responsibility as the ruler of the dark cacao kingdom, and i would dislike to trouble you so."
your expression blanked, clearly voicing your disapproval. to this, the king chuckled as he motioned for you to come closer. you did as beckoned, going forward to him, awaiting the next order as his faithful servant. however, quite to your confusion, he frowned. pulling you closer, he held tight. flinching ever so slightly, you felt unworthy. sadly, not much could've been done on occasion, so, you simply stood, as he ran his fingers through your hair, and in his arms, akin to a prized possession that he refused to let go.

he whispered words, words that carried the burden of sorrow, pain, and regret. those words, ever so unexpected, and never in a lifetime would you ever dare to imagine your lord begging, pleading, for anyone.

yet, here he was. it was a fact that you could never deny.

"please, don't ever leave me. you're the only thing left. please, please. you won't leave me, correct? you dare not to. i'd search the entire earthbread for you. don't leave me alone, don't abandon me, none of that. if you do, what'd that make me? what'd that you? monsters, both of us."

you never knew much of your lord, nor his past. only fragments of whispered carried by wind, accessed you that his past was a tragic one. this, this confirmed it. what was more astonishing was how much he wanted you. if you left, what would arise in your leave. he was correct, he was your lord, your king, he was never wrong.

the claims of leaving, making you a monster?

he's right, he had to be.

yet it felt so sickenly wrong, just a twinge, but still present.

yet, loyalty knew no bounds, so, in response and reassurance, you enveloped him in your arms, feeling him sigh in relief as he pulled you closer.

maybe, you would never know the reason why so many left you.
that was a secret, better left unsaid.
