Ba-boom. Ba-boom. Ba-boom.
My heart beats rapidly. I haven't had the dream in over five years. Normally I'd wake up screaming, but this time I didn't. A groan escaped my lips, instead, before I could stop it. Every heartbeat was like a white hot rod being stabbed into head at multiple angles. Why does it hurt so much? I rub my hands over my face as I sit up. My heat palpitated when I see my surroundings causing pain to my forehead. I tentatively touched a very tender bump on my head.
Where am I?
I look around the relatively spacious room. It looked like a very luxurious hotel room. The walls were black, the bed sheets were a deep grey. The doona was heavy with feathers. The light that woke me up was filtered through a small window high on the opposite wall. A door is swung open to the right of me. I nearly jump out of my skin.
It was a very slim girl, with fair hair and skin. She was dressed in a simple black dress. She looked quite pretty, but the closer she got the more I could see. The bags under her eyes were evident and she looked very malnourished.
"I see that you have woken up, Miss Kate." She had a sad look in her eyes as she turned on the lamp beside me.
"Where am I?" I ask quietly. She must... work for these people.
"Oh Kate." Her voice is softer than silk. "I'm not allowed to say, but you were taken from your home only three hours ago by Pete and Riley." A searing pain of sadness and fear hits me like a freight train. My mind does a replay of the events before they sedated me. I touch my forehead and tears fill my eyes.
"Do you know what's going to happen to me?" I ask.
"I can't be here for long, but you are being put up for auction in half an hour. Here is your clothes. You must wear them and you must shower. The shower is through the door over there. I'm so, so sorry Kate. I wish I could help. Just do me a favour and don't disobey the men. I'll be back in twenty - five to take you out." She starts to back away.
"An auction? What do you mean?" My voice breaks. She opened her mouth to say something.
"Jane! What is taking you so long? Drop the clothes off and get out." A rough voice yells through the door. She gives me one last look, puts her finger to her lips as to shush me, then leaves through the door. I hear the door lock.
An auction? What kind of sick people take young girls from their homes by force, and puts them up for auction? The sickening smile of the man enters my mind. Them of course.
I lift up the clothing that Jane placed on my bed. It was a simple black form fitting dress. If what Jane said was true, then I would have less than twenty five minutes to get ready.
I get out of bed on shaky knees and walk to the door on the far left. I open it. It was a simple bathroom with a small basin and mirror. There was no window. I take off what little clothes I had and step into the shower. An auction? Why would they want to put me up for auction? I thought as I stood under the heated water. A thought struck me hard. Are they selling me off as a... As a sex slave? I gasped. How could I not think of that? The man's smile looms in my brain. No, no, no!
I briefly wash my self down with the bar or soap in the shower. As I got out of the shower, I heard the door softly click closed. Fear chilled me to the bone. Was someone in the room awaiting me? Could it be Jane?
I very quickly wipe myself down with a towel in the small cupboard under the sink, put my undies on from last night, and carefully slip the dress over my head. I brushed my hair lightly with my fingers and slowly opened the door. Steam cascaded out of the bathroom, but no one came into view. I let out a breath of relief. As I walked to the bed I saw that it had been remade, and that a sparking bottle of perfume laid in the middle. Underneath it was a note. It read: Use me. I will know if you haven't. June's warning whispered in my ear. I sprayed it hesitantly in the air and sniffed it. It smelt of roses and sweetness. I frowned. It seemed like normal perfume, why would they want me to wear it? I sprayed it anyway onto my body.
The door slowly opened.
"Hello, sweetheart." The buff man says quietly while looking me up. The air gets caught in my throat. His nose was a deep purple color, blood caked around his nostrils.
"No." I whisper and slowly back away.
"Yes, darlin'. Time to go." He jumps at me suddenly. I dash to the bathroom but he grabbed my hair before I could even get close it it. I scream out. "Don't make this harder than it has to be" he pulls me to him, and wraps one arm around my waist and and his hand clamps over my mouth. I thrashed around. "I will sedate you if you don't stop." He growls in my ear and tightens his hold. My body stills when I could hardly breath.
"Good girl." He pressed a soft kiss to my neck. I shuddered in disgust. "Too bad you're getting sold off today. I would've loved you to be my maid. Are you going to be a good girl and walk where I ask?" He peels off his fingers slowly.
"Yes." I croak.
"Good." He let go of me slowly, but grabs my hand.
I was lead out the door. The soft spongy carpet was like heaven to my feet. We walked through what seemed like a labyrinth of hallways, to stop in front of an off - white door.
"Here we are, darlin'." He opened the door softly. I couldn't see one thing. It was pitch black in there.
"W-what is this? What's i - in there?"
"How about you find that out yourself. Bitch." He shoved me inside and slammed the door closed. I heard the lock click as I fell onto my knees on what felt like metal. My breathing became labored.
A grinding noise echoed loudly in the room. I screamed in fear. Why is it so echoeic in here?
The grinding noise stopped, then the whole floor started to move. It gave the sensation that it was lifting. The floor lifted for a solid minute before it stopped. A loud voice echoed in the room suddenly.
"Miss Kate Marie Collins." Bright lights suddenly turned on revealing my being in a clear glassed cage. I stood up and realized I was standing on a metal platform. "Aged seventeen and seven months, Caucasian, only child, and virgin. This beauty is blood type AB negative, rarest of its kind. In fact only one percent of the world's population has it." It was a silky deep voice that announced these facts about me. Why would they announce my blood type? I spun slowly, tears began filling my eyes. I was being showcased. I saw only men on the four different levels of seating, all staring. No, you know what? Fuck them! I don't have to act all innocent and naiive!
I ran to the glass wall and pounded my fists on it. I planned to yell at them, to tell them what dirty pigs they were. Instead my body stiffened and fell back. Electricity ran through my body instantly. I let out a scream of pain as my back arched painfully. My head began to throb hard.
"It seems that we have a feisty one." His tone was bitter. "Because of her very rare blood type, let's start our bidding at... five hundred thousand." The cols metal bit into my back. Five hundred thousand? I surely didn't hear him say that. "Okay, bids up to five hundred and fifty thousand. Six hundred thousand to number five. Oh! We have a bidder on the phone here... mmhmm. Oh! One million dollars!" The voice choked on a laugh. "Anyone higher?" I gasped and sat up. One million dollars to buy me? I felt hundreds of eyes on me as I stood up. "No one? Going in three... Two... last chance?" Silence. "Sold! To Mr Alexander Harrison for one million dollars." The lights shut off suddenly. The door is opened and I hear a man walk in.
"Time to sleep, sweetheart." That wretched cloth is pressed over my mouth. I don't hesitate this time. What's the point in fighting what's eventually going to happen anyway.
I let the darkness take me.
