A New Day

It was a new and bright day when you woke up. You just got a new job at the bookstore a few blocks down from your new apartment and you were ready to start everything over. Getting to this point was dangerous and you were lucky to have even gotten here. Especially since your power was unnatural to the new world you belonged in. Still thinking about that moment when you fell to the ground in a new reality had you stirring and confused. And certainly never short of a million questions. I mean how were you to explain to people that your power could not be considered a 'Nen' ability. Like what even is that, you still couldn't grasp the concept and choose to just live how you lived, hiding your power the best that you could. Which was more than a feat on it's own. I mean it has been six months since you landed here so I guess this is what you should expect.

Your alarm went off, alerting you that it was indeed time to get up and get the day going. You held onto your excitement as you threw on your favorite leggings and sweatshirt as it was now fall in Yorknew City. It was a relatively busy time of year for the town as you recently learned a large auction would be taking place within the next few days. Before heading into work you stopped at the coffee shop and got your classic iced coffee.

"Hey y/n! How are you?" Asked Lucas, the barista you've come to be really good friends with in the span of time you have been here.

"Hey! Things are great! I start working next door today thanks to you!" You beamed a smile at him and then noticed the air in the room change when three new customers walked in, you could even feel a particular burn on your back which made you nervous and you even noticed the smile on the baristas face slowly fade.

The air in the room now felt constricting and serious but you weren't about to let it bother you.

"Honestly Lucas I really appreciate you helping me get a job next door!" You beamed with confidence towards your barista friend which drew him out of the constricting aura of the customers behind you and helped him to refocus on the conversation with you, but you could also see the blush creeping onto his face.

"Honestly y/n it's no problem! Just helping out a friend as much as I can, but are you getting your usual today?"

"Of course! A perfect drink for the most perfect day is what I am most certainly needing!"

"Then here, it's on the house!" Lucas said as he was handing you your drink, basically thanking you for cutting the tension in the room.

Although as much as you tired to ignore the eyes burning into your back you couldn't avoid making eye contact with the sender as you turned around to leave, and when you did you could feel your breath hitch in your throat as you locked eyes with a man no taller than you with sharp eyes, moderately long black hair and a mask covering half of his face with a skull as decoration. Most certainly a man you do not want to see again once you step out of the building. And even though he was with two others they seemed to blur out of your vision as you kept eye contact with this man until you back was towards him again and began walking out the door, even which, his eyes were still burning into your back. What was a three minute stop for coffee felt like half an hour.

You very quickly made your way over to your job next door to the coffee shop, unlocking the door and turning on the lights as you walked to the counter. You still had half an hour to prepare the store to be open. The only bad part of working in a small little bookstore was the fact it was so small and there wasn't enough business to warrant for more than one person to be working at a time. Granted you got lucky today because you would only be working alone for the next two hour, the weekends were the busiest so a second person was scheduled to come in around the afternoon.

Half an hour passed in no time and you found yourself flipping the open sign around and opening the doors, allowing them to stay open so the cool fall air could seep in and avoid the building from getting too warm.

Even when you were open time seemed to pass fairly fast and before you knew it any other tasks you had for the day were done, you had a few sales but not too many and got lost in conversation with a few people and then things slowed down enough to give you time to read a book behind the counter. You got so lost in the book you didn't notice someone had come into the store until there was a thud of a book that smacked on the counter, which scared you and made you jump and immediately make eye contact with the presence in front of you.

And that's when it hit, all the blood from your face drained to your stomach and you stood there locking eyes with the last person you were ever hoping to be in the presence of again.

"I want these." He said, staring at you, emotionless. It was the man who was staring at you earlier at the coffee shop, with the spider face mask. But this time he was alone.

"O-of course," you stood there too scared to move and he scoffed and just picked up the books and started to walk towards the exit.

He looked back, again, and made eye contact with you, which was easy because you never looked away.

"Thanks, see you around."

And like that he was finally gone. You weren't sure how to feel, at this point your head was to the ground and you broke out into a small sweat. And now one question rang in your mind louder than the other, who was this incredibly threateningly handsome man who scared you to death like no other, and why do you like it so much?
