Chapter -4: Hiring a good friend; The nurse, Sana Alamgir!

Alina's pov
I wake up in the morning only to find my stomach churning uncomfortably. I felt wet. And then upon remembering it is 'my time' of the month, I rushed to the washroom to do daily necessities and took a shower coming out of the shower taking the towel hung opposite to it. Dried my body and hair with it and went out of the washroom to wear office attire. Today I'm going to wear a different one as I had planned on while taking my first interview, I should look good. I looked at the time it was 7:15 already. I rushed down after taking my handbag and sat on the kitchen island where Sahi bro was having his breakfast, as soon as I came Ajmal Uncle brought tea for him and my plate of boiled eggs, french toast, and a cup of hot chocolate. I ate it and drank quickly as Sahil got up to leave, taking his phone with him. And told me to catch up with him. I also stood up took my handbag and washed my hands quickly, went to the car, and sat in it closing the door which Sahil had left open.
We reached the office in about 20 minutes as there was a bit of traffic. Nevertheless, we reached exactly at 7:30. I went towards my office bidding Sahil goodbye. When I went inside I was surprised to see my table was changed, it was a big one which on either side had space for chairs. And two chairs were kept opposite mine. A welcome board which was sent by Almer was hung on my office door. I was pleased to see that cute little thing! I got busy scheduling the interview and got an email from the event manager of the office to ask these questions or to focus on some particular topics like 'why did you choose UFTAB' 'what would be your contributions to it?' 'How will you interact with patients/employees' and to hire accordingly. After hiring I'll have to give her some instructions and the rules and regulations file like the one Sahil gave to me on my first day. Blah blah blah. Time flew by and I didn't realize when it became 11:30. A knock resounding on my office door made me come out of my world of thoughts. I said 'Come in' confidence evident in my voice.
A beautiful hijab-clad girl made her entrance known in my office as she entered saying 'Assalamualaikum, Good morning!' In a cheerful tone.
'Walaikumussalam' - I
'Please take a seat' - I motioned her to take a seat on the chairs opposite to me.
She sat and smiled nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
'How are you?'
'Good, By the grace of the Almighty.'
'How are you? Madam'
'I'm good, all thanks to Allah.'
'Ok, so let's begin!'
'What did you do before applying here?'
'I worked as an intern in Al-Emaadi hospital, just retired before two months.'
'Why did you retire from there?'
'Their timing was intense and became quite tiring for me as Emaadi hospital is a very reputed one, you know. So it stays overcrowded most of the time. And thus much workload would be left out every day in the end. So I wanted to work in a less crowded area and with a lesser workload. Hence, I retired from Emaadi Hospital.'
'Ok, well. Why did you choose UFTAB to work in.'
'I chose UFTAB as I liked the environment here, quiet, nice, and perfectly disciplined. I saw it when I came here once with my cousin to meet her childhood friend.'
'Ahh...If I may know who is your cousin's childhood friend?' - I asked when my curiosity perked up.
'Ig, it's the C.E.O. Mr.Sahil Dalal'- she replied making me wonder if she is Sara's cousin.
'Are you Sara's cousin?'
'Yes, I am. How did you know?!'- she asked me quite taken aback by my sudden change in topic and correct guess.
'I just guessed, because I got to know about your cousin Sara, that she is Sahil bro's childhood sweetheart!'- I said absentmindedly.
'Oops, wrong thing at the wrong time'- I said clapping my hand over my mouth.
'Uh. it's okay, ig. But is it for real that Sara is Mr. Sahil's childhood sweetheart?'
'Yeah might be, I got to know yesterday only when they were walking leisurely while their arms were entangled!'
'Let's get back to our interview, sorry for interrupting and changing the topic. You might think what kind of an interviewer am I?! Speaking on a serious topic then suddenly it went to personal topics! I just joined yesterday'- I said feeling a little ashamed of myself. Anyways, I smiled.
She also returned my smile.
'No, nothing like that I understand'
'Sure, let's continue where we stopped!'
'What are your expectations from UFTAB?'
'I expect all my colleagues to cooperate with me. To be friendly. And eventually, enjoy being around everyone and this job. Well, I hope there will be less burden of work! Because of my previous experience.'
'Ok, I believe your expectations will be fulfilled!'- I gave a sigh.
'Until then...' I was just about to tell her to say something about herself. When a knock resounded on my office door. I said: 'Come in.'
The helper came in with a tray holding two cups of coffee and some choco-chip cookies, which he kept on my table. I nodded at him and said: 'Thankyou'.
Then he left after replying with 'your most welcome and closing the door behind him.
'Help yourself, please!'- I said extending the tray towards her.
'Thank you' - she said while taking the cup. And then a cookie. I also followed her actions and sent an email to Sahil and asked 'If I can hire her as the nurse/my assistant, I liked her after interviewing her'.
After we finished eating and drinking the cookies and coffee. I got a reply from Sahil saying 'If you think she is suitable for the job, then hire her And welcome her to UFTAB! Tell her to start working from day-after tomorrow's tomorrow.'
'So the interview is coming to an end. And congrats! You're officially hired as the part time nurse in UFTAB and other times as my assistant. I welcome you wholeheartedly. You can start working from the tomorrow-after tomorrow. Hehe. I look forward to work with you. Until then, see you! Assalamualaikum.'- I said in my 'doctor's voice'. And smiled widely in the end seeing her reaction.
'Oh my goodness! Thank you ya Allah, I expected good from this interview. And thank youu thank you so much for providing me this opportunity to work with you in a place like UFTAB. Ok then. Walaikumussalam. See you next time. And thankyou again, I'm very excited to work with you!'- she (standing up to leave.)
I also stood up in respect.
She went out closing the door behind her.
'Soooo, finally the nurse is hired'- I exclaimed aloud to myself. Looking at the time it was 1:00. Hour or so remaining for the lunch. Upon looking out around my office, glancing out of the glass wall behind me. I felt awe-struck seeing the beautiful view of the corniche and the busy roads. I love seeing this view. Anyways I love Qatar's corniche. ( Pic above ⬆️ ) So many memories have been created there since childhood.
After a while I took out my phone and took a pic of the beautiful view afront me. Then again focusing on what I've to do next. I opened my desktop to open that email from the event manager after opening gmail. Taking down questions to ask for the next interview on my notepad. I felt someone looking at me. I turned back and there he was! Ig from the 10th floor of his building. Almer, was gazing at me with 'I don't know what?!'. But I surely felt uncomfortable with him looking at me continously. Then when he noticed me looking back at him. He smiled and waved. I also waved back. He then received a call and got busy with his work. I also resumed working. Until a bell rang and announcement came 'Ladies and Gentleman! It's time for lunch. Please come to the dine-in area.' As I was about to go. A messenger came after knocking. 'Maam you are advised by Mr.Sahil not to go for lunch. He is taking you somewhere to meet someone and you have to go down in the lounge now.'
'Oh. Ok!'
He closed the door and went leaving me to ponder about who's the one he's going to make me meet?! Where's he going to take me?!. Just after a few minutes, Sahil came and asked me 'Are you coming?!'
'Yes, I am!'
We went down through the lift and outside the building. He went to his car and sat in it, I followed suite. He drove to what looked like a luxurious hotel. (More like ancient style). As we were entering and walking to the tables.
'Whom are we meeting?!'
'Impatient, now. Are we?! You'll get to see soon!'
To my surprise we went to a table where Almer, Uzma and Sara were already sitting. (Felt like they were waiting for us) Almer got up and hugged Sahil. Sara also did the same. Then Almer shook hands with me. And we sat.
'Hey there, Alina. Welcome to my land!' -Almer.
'Oo hello! If you stop overacting for once. The roof won't collapse!'-Sahil
'Hi. Almer'- I greeted.
'Hi, I'm Sara. I guess I saw you somewhere.'
'Hello, I'm Alina. Yeah we met at Umna's engagement.' (Reminding her that we've met)
'Hey Alina, how are you?!'-Uzma.
'Hello Uzma, I'm good. By the grace of Allah. What about you?'
'I'm also good, All praises to Allah...' -Uzma
'Hey, I'm not overacting!'-Almer playfully slapped on Sahil's shoulder.
'Whatever bro!' - Sahil said giving him a light punch.
'Will you guys start fighting now?!' - Sara.
'And what if we will?!'-Almer
'If you guys will we'll order popcorn and watch you guys fighting! Right Rass?!' -Uzma
'You're right! Umzz' -Sara
'Huh...just that you don't forget. We don't do cat fights!' - Sahil
'Exactly, point to be noted!' -Almer says giving a hi-5 to Sahil.
'What's with Sara and Uzma calling eachother Umzz and Rass?!' - I asked.
'Oh, that we kind of call eachother's name vise-versa' -Sara
'Ohhh, I see'
'No, you hear it!' -Almer says.
'Yeah?! I thought I could see it! Sorry..'
'Good sarcasm!' -Almer.
And all started laughing not knowing who was faking it.
We ordered the food. After 10 minutes it arrived. Till then we went to the washroom got freshened up and washed hands. To come back and start eating. The food was just....yum😋. When we were done eating and returned after washing hands the atmosphere became a bit serious. Sahil said to me 'Listen Alu, you might not know this. Me and Sara share a special bond, since childhood. You might've not seen her with me when I would be with my other friends... Because she's special. I want you to befriend her and accept her before it's too late to share a bond.' -Sahil (Sara and him looking at eachother fondly the whole time.)
'Yeah, Sahi bro. Actually I just got to know yesterday by certain someone. (Looking at Almer for a brief second.) Well, yeah. I am surprised I never saw her before yesterday. Sure, I'm always ready to make friends!' -I said.
'Yeah, she just came yesterday from Kuwait. After 8 years...' - Sahil
'Ohh. The reason behind her absence' (nodding in understanding)
The drinks arrived just then.
And we took a toast saying 'To relations from start till end of our life' ( Both the couples looking at eachother and my gaze wandered off, landing on a handsome stranger!🤣 )
We drank the smoothies heartily. And said our goodbyes and I with Sahil went to our office.
