Don't Just Quote

"You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me." (John 5:39)

I remember my pastor saying, "It is not enough to quote a verse and be satisfied." Right! Oftentimes, we quote verses that seem fit for our situations, verses that would be most comforting to hear. But the Word of God is not just there to comfort us but for us to KNOW OUR GOD. What would it benefit us if we read the Bible just for the sake of reading, or for the sake of just choosing a memory verse (that we don't really get to memorize) to write on our devotion notebook, without even spending more time to meditate on it and wait till we get a revelation from God? I doubt if that seed would be planted on a good soil.

My friend, let us press on to maturity. Let us spend time in studying the Word of God so that when we go and share the Good News to others, we will give them nothing but the Word of Truth.

And may we not forget that God's Word is alive and powerful. We must not only be just hearers, but doers of the Word. We have got to apply His Word. It is when we apply the Word of God that we bear fruit.

Quoting again from my pastor, "The best thing that Satan wants us to do is to not listen to the Word. Or if we listen to the Word, for us not to apply it."

Are the things we do according to the Will of our Heavenly Father, thus pleasing Him? Or is it the other way around?

(A morning reflection upon reading one of my old notes. God bless!)
