Julie

We rented a house away from civilization. We couldn't risk to be seen together. It was nothing special, just enough for the months we'll spend here. I actually also rented one more apartment right in the center of the city. In case we invited people to our houses, we couldn't tell them that we live together. We aren't even supposed to know each other.

I closed the door behind me and I leaned on it. A deep breath that I was probably holding the whole day, escaped my lips.

What the hell were we doing?

Luke was working on his plan, giving me some space. I walked in front of the mirror and took a look of me. I noticed my shaky hands, so I hid them in fists.

That's what we do, Julie, we rob.

I sighed and moved my glance from my hands, back to the familiar figure in front of me.

Tomorrow is the big day.

You can do it.

Next day

The coffee shop was nearly deserted, each click of my heels echoing like a drumbeat against the tiled floor.

Reggie's eyes locked onto mine, his smile broad and disarming. I was beginning to understand why his friends called him a sweetheart.

"If it isn't Julie," he teased, and a soft laugh escaped my lips.

"Missed me?" I dropped my bag onto the empty bench and slid in beside him. After placing my order, I turned my attention back to him.

"Who wouldn't?" he replied, his presence melting away my tension.

"How have you been?" I asked, resting my chin on my palm.

"Good, good. Now, let's get to the real reason we're here." His tone shifted, and a chill ran down my spine, cold sweat prickling the back of my neck.

I furrowed my brows. "The guy from yesterday. As you can see, I kept my part of our deal."

A sigh of relief slipped from my lips. Thank God.

"Well, I can't see him anywhere," I said, my tone light and teasing. Reggie smirked and nodded towards a part of the café I hadn't been looking at.

"Of course," I mumbled, turning around cautiously. There he was, the familiar figure engaged in conversation with a blonde guy.

"He's with a friend," I insisted. Reggie rolled his eyes, taking a leisurely sip of his coffee before standing up.

"Come on," he said, taking my hand and pulling me gently but firmly towards the pair.

"What are you doing?" I whispered, seeing the mischievous glint in his eyes. He was enjoying this, and I decided to play along.
