Julie

"You won't believe it," I called out loud enough for Luke to hear through the phone as I swept up my room. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across my floor, and the day's events were still swirling in my mind.

"What is it?" he asked, curiosity evident in his voice.

"Reggie just texted me asking if we can meet up." The broom fell from my hands as the sound of an incoming call interrupted my chores. My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a strange mix of excitement and anxiety bubbling up inside me.

"He's calling," I said, noticing my hands trembling slightly. The room felt suddenly smaller, the air thicker.

"What are you waiting for? Answer," Luke urged. I hung up with him and switched to the other call, my pulse quickening.

"Hey Julie, I hope I'm not bothering you." Reggie's voice was a familiar comfort, yet it carried a hint of something new, something that made my heart race.

I cleared my throat, trying to mask the rush of emotions. "You know you're not. What's up?" I heard him chuckle on the other line, and I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me at his reaction..

"Well, it's the weekend and since I won't be seeing you at the cafeteria I thought we could maybe do something."

Is it possible for everything to be flowing so easily?

"Oh. Yes, sure. Since I'm new at the city what if you gave me a tour at the center? Didn't have a chance to visit yet."

"Of course and I was thinking to invite that loverboy of yours.", I could sense the teasing tone in his voice.

I bit my lower lip nervously. "Reggie, wouldn't that be...weird?"

He chuckled again, the sound a soothing balm to my nerves. "It was clear that this boy is into you as much as you're into him. Don't worry, I'll be the perfect matchmaker."

"I don't know," my breath quickened, "what if we also invited his other friend, Alex, so it doesn't seem that forced?"

"Yeah, sure. I'll give him a call, and you call loverboy, okay?"

Loverboy. Such a weird word. But it made me smile.

"Okay, okay. At eight?" He agreed, and we spared a few more details about where we'd meet before hanging up.

I quickly dialed Luke's number, my fingers trembling with excitement.

"What happ—"

"At eight in the center by the cafeteria. You, me, Reggie, and Alex," I said in one breath, the words tumbling out in a rush.

"Jules, have I told you lately how amazing you are?" Luke couldn't hide his excitement. Just the sound of his voice made my body relax, the tension melting away.
