Chapter 6

Jo's POV

I can't believe I'm wearing the dress my father gave to Caroline all those years ago. It's all blue and brings out the color of my eyes. I have my hair tied half up and half down with two little strands of curls hanging down the front. Hero looks so handsome in his black suit with a matching bow tie, his hair slicked back with jel with one strand dangling in the front of his forehead. The song All I Need begins to play by Within Temptation and we start our dance by placing our right hand in front of one another's as we circle each other. Hero looks down at me smiling as I stare up into his captivating greenish-blue eyes smiling back. We rotate hands and continue to circle one another, all the while our hands remain apart but I can feel the electricity flowing from his palm into mine even with the distance. I smile as I see Lizzie and M.G beside us dancing and turn to my left and watch Landon with Josie on the other side of us as the rest of the pageant members dance with us all of us in a straight line. Both our hands raise in front of us as we circle each other Hero's gaze on me causing goosebumps to rise down my arm as he stares at me lovingly. My eyes locked on to his as we finally embrace I smile as he waltzes me around the dance floor. His hand holding me tightly as he grips my waist and my arms wrap around his broad shoulders. Until the song ends and we part facing each other the urge to kiss his luscious lips is almost maddening as he looks at me knowingly winking which makes me giggle. Caroline looks at me smirking and ushers us all into the formal dining area where we sit down and have lunch.

"They should of named this ball after me" Damon whispers making us all laugh. "Hush there are human ears around and I don't want to spend my time compelling everyone" Caroline whispers back scolding him. "Ok Blondie" he says chuckling as Elena smacks him on his arm playfully. "So Jo do you know the history between us and your father?" Damon asks me as the rest of our table looks over at me waiting for me to answer. "I know it wasn't good" I say nervously digging in my plate as I push the food around. Hero grabs my hand and squeezes it encouragingly making me look up and smile at him. "Don't make her feel bad it's not her fault for Klaus's past. He changed just like you did" Elena tells Damon as he looks over at me and says "I'm sorry Josephine I didn't mean to make you feel bad. My beautiful wife as usual is right you don't have anything to do with the history between us and your family. So here's to making a new history and new friends." "Cheers to that mate" Hero says as we all raise our glasses.

"That's not fair they know the judges and the woman running it. They obviously have a heads up on the questions" I hear one of the girls I think her name is Anya Fell say to another girl named Sara something both contestants in the pageant. "Those are her daughters she obviously gave them the best chance to win. We don't stand a chance with cheaters like them rich private school bitches" Sara says to Anya and my blood burns with anger as I cast a spell saying "infuscious" making them anxious and scared as they looked at each other and ran away screaming. "Josephine Hope Michaelson" Ric says to me angrily as he looks over to where the girls are standing nervously biting their manicured nails. "Fix it now" he whisper yells at me as he points towards the girls. "Reversio tribum" I chant as I look at the two girls as see there eyes go back to normal as they glared towards our table. Luckily they won't even think of there actions as a magical occurrence most people would rather admit they went a little mad, than to admit that they believed in the supernatural.

"We don't do that stuff in public you know better Jo" Caroline says looking at me sadly which makes me feel guilty as I think of my parents and how they would feel knowing I almost exposed us. "I'm sorry but they were saying some mean things about us" I say pointing to me, Josie and Lizzie. "That doesn't excuse your behavior" Ric says sternly. "I understand and I'm sorry" I tell them both as they look at me. "We better go finish this thing I need to get back to the bar" Damon says distracting everyone from my magic use and we all get up to go finish the pageant.

After we did the question portion of the pageant I was so over this thing. The only reason I even did it was to support Lizzie. I know how much winning Ms. Mystic Falls means to her. Now the judges are all discussing amongst each other as I cast a spell listening in. "Josephine really won me over with how she overcame such hardships in life at such a young age" Matt says to Damon who nods his head in agreement. Great the last thing I want is to win and ruin it for my best friend. I see Damon smiling as he hands a card over to Caroline who smiles as she grabs it and walks over to the microphone. "The winner of this year's Ms. Mystic Falls pageant is Josephine Michaelson from the Salvatore school" she says clapping as Elena puts a crown on my head and a sash saying Ms. Mystic Falls 2022 and Stefanie hands me a bouquet of roses as they both congratulate me. Lizzie and Josie are both smiling and clapping for me but I know deep down this isn't meant for me. "I'm sorry everyone but I can't accept this when the real Ms. Mystic Falls is someone who dedicated her heart and soul into this town and into this pageant and that person is Elizabeth Saltzman" I say taking the crown and placing on Lizzie's head as she looks at me stunned and happiness written all overall her face. "Jo are you serious?" she says as I nod smiling at her "you deserve this" I tell her as I hand her the bouquet and sash she stops me leaving the roses in my hand as she puts the sash over Josie who smiles as her twin says "we're all winners here we have each other." "Always and forever" I say as we pull each other in for a hug.
