Jasper was abruptly awoken from his nap by his phone buzzing like crazy. It was comparable to a fly that wouldn't stop buzzing by your ears, so he quickly snatched the phone.
"Holy fuck..." He muttered. He had missed calls from his mom, Kat, and several friends and coworkers. They were blowing him up to see if he was okay and asking if he had seen the news.
Just as he was about to start calling people back his phone started buzzing again. The screen lit up with "Kit Kat 💕" is calling, he answered.
"Jasper?!" Kat gasped over the phone.
"What the hell is going on?? Everyone's asking if I've seen the news?" He said in a confused tone, his usually deep voice higher in pitch due to the stress bubbling up inside of him.
"Two words. Zombie. Apocalypse. It started earlier it's all over the news. Big cities everywhere got hit, Hong Kong, New Orleans, New York City, etc." She stated in a monotone yet ominous voice. "Come to my place, we have supplies and weapons. We can go up north to my family's ranch, it's safe there for now."
Jaspers' head was spinning from her rapid fire of information. "I need to call my mom."
"Heard, call me back with an answer. She's welcome because she's got to be cool, she's your mother after all." Kat said with a slight giggle. Jasper couldn't help but smile.
"Will do Kit Kat." He said softly into the mouthpiece. She giggled softly once more and then the hang-up tone played. Her laughter put him at ease, Kat in general was a genuinely beautiful person. If she could laugh in the face of the apocalypse then he knew that they would be okay. To him, this was his chance to finally get closer to her, as she was very open yet still very much an enigma to him. He thought of her unique eyes and the way she holds herself, it's like she carries herself because she knows her purpose in this life. It was almost magical.

Jasper zipped up his black duffel bag, packed down with food, clothes, and other miscellaneous supplies. He grabbed his black dragonfly katana, uttering a small prayer over it. He gently slid the sword in its black and gold carrying sling. He slung it over his shoulder, then the large duffel bag.
He took one last look around his room. Jasper scanned his space carefully, making sure not to forget anything. He lingered at his desk, looking at the small collection of crystals his mother and Kathryn had given him. He scooped them up gently, stuffing them into his pocket. Better than nothing, right?
He collected the last of his sentimental items and headed to his door. He glanced through the small window and saw others hurriedly gathering their belongings and running to and fro. He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He grabbed the keys to his Mitsubishi Evo VIII; it was a gorgeous mint green with Japanese lettering on the back window. It had a katana decal underneath it, with a dragon and tiger clashing which showed an all-out battle.
"あなたは私の刃に落ちるでしょう。"
It translates to, "You shall fall by my blade." Partially the reason why Kat was so interested in Jasper was due to that translation. She immediately pulled up videos of her practicing with her red katana, adorned with golden dragons. That really sparked his interest in her, Jasper thinks he is lucky she chose him to travel with her in the imminent apocalypse.
Jasper gathered himself and tightened his grip on his belongings. He had to pick up his brother, Sebastian, and meet with their mother, Natalie, to have her follow Kathryn up north. They plan on going to convene at Kathryn's apartment and distributing supplies amongst themselves before making our way to her family's ranch.
Jasper pushed through his front door, closing it gently and locking it. Not that the lock will do much good against potential looters. He learned that after Hurricane Laura when his house was broken into and ransacked.
He shook his head to dismiss the thought and walked swiftly to his condominium's parking lot. The familiar beep of his car unlocking soothed him. He popped the trunk, admiring the decal first. Jasper was so happy to have his dream car. He gently set his belongings in his trunk.
After getting in the car he texted his brother that he was on the way. Jasper put the key in the ignition, pushed in the clutch, and put it in reverse. Despite the flurry of people fleeing he easily slid out of the lot, the car purring through the traffic.
Jasper glided through the familiar neighborhoods, taking the back streets he knew so well. He noticed a sign posted in a yard that was new to him. As Jasper drew close enough to make it out his phone started ringing and Sebastian's name flashed across the screen.
"Bro, where are you?" Bastian said in a stressed tone. "I'm right around the corner lil' bro, be there in a minute." Jasper said reassuringly.
He whipped around the corner, speeding towards his mother's house. The car glided to a stop at the end of the driveway. His mother, Natalie, and his brother were waiting on the front porch. They both were holding their pistols and had knives strapped to their hips. They were ready. Miss Natalie's blacked-out charger was already growling, ready to go at the drop of a hat.
"Son, what took you so long? I thought I taught you to have a go bag ready for anything." Nat said in a stern voice.
Jasper sighed, "I had to grab new food items, the old ones were expired." His mother beamed and nodded proudly. Sebastian was already walking to the car with a big duffel bag as well as a decently sized backpack. Jasper gave his mother a tight hug and told her he loved her before heading to his mint-green sedan. Sebastian had just set his backpack in the backseat, and then as his tall bulky figure loomed over the car, he jokingly said, "So big bro when are you going to let me drive?"
Jasper laughed and shook his head, "When you have your own car you can drive that one!" He affectionately patted the roof of his car, "You know this is my baby."
Sebastian rolled his eyes and hopped into the passenger seat without any protest. Jasper slid into the driver's seat and looked over to see that his mom had already pulled out and was waiting behind him.
He sped off, tires squealing through his neighborhood for the last time. Natalie tailed him closely; they glided through the neighborhoods in the direction of Kathryn's apartment.
