𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 hard to focus in Math class when every word that comes out of the teachers mouth goes in one ear and comes out the other. It's never been a strong suite of mine, writing is. It's much easier to express your thoughts then to calculate equations, which is why I raise my hand for the teacher.

"Yes, Mrs. Kuwonu?"

"I'm not gonna pretend like I understood anything you just said. Imma need you to explain that one more time," I tell him as I twirl my pen around in my hand.

"Sorry, but this part of the curriculum is very long. You have to find time to study if you're behind, 'cause I can't slow down any longer if we're gonna get through today's lesson." He walks towards the board and writes a new equation for the class to answer.

I sit there confused and out of words. I get that I'm new but I've always managed to hold my own in Math, even though I hated it. But not even trying to explain it to me once more? I've always had attentive teachers back in New York City. I was always a good student so they'd make sure they were doing their best whenever I needed it.

"Mann, don't worry about him, he eats ass." I hear a high pitched voice from my right say. I turn to face it's owner who's chewing on a fruit scented piece of gum. "No, literally. There's a video circulating. You can't expect much from him other than assery," she adds and I tuck my lips in to form a straight line.

From my time here I was sure that her name was Stella or something close to that. She wore very long acrylic nails that would tap the desk so much, it began to sound too quiet whenever she was absent. I didn't mind it though because I was lacking critical thinking skills here to begin with. This was her first time talking to me though, but I've seen her eyeing me and sometimes Jahseh, who's either late to this class or not coming at all.

I nod at her as if in understanding but I am even more confused and now a bit disturbed by the information she disclosed unprovoked. Overall, I was tired. There were two more periods left after lunch and I just wanted to be home already, in bed and in front of a fan while Nami and I watched Teen Wolf.

"Ah," I hear the teacher say just as I was about to look down at my notes again. I look to where he's motioning to which is the door, where Jahseh enters with a folded paper in his hand. "Perhaps Jahseh can tutor you a bit. I know you guys are in the same friend group so that should be easy," He adds while retrieving the note from him.

I train my eyebrows to stay down and not look so horrified.

"You two can sit in the back, I don't want you disturbing the class."

I close my notebook and gather my things, finding that Stella had pushed her chair in long ago to make my path easier. She smirks a little as I pass her and head to the back, parallel to Jahseh as he walks from the front of the room. We both sit down in unison and I sigh, dragging my hand down my face in frustration and fatigue.

"You okay?" He asks. He pulls his hoodie off of his head and place his arms on the table.

I move my hand away from my eyes to see him better, nodding in response. "Yeah, just tired. You?" I ask, the note he entered with coming to mind.

He nods and moves his chair closer a bit so we could get started. I try not to pay too much close attention to this as he continues to say, "Don't trip about this shit. He just likes to know your trying, he don't grade harshly." I appreciate this weird consoling thing he's doing. I nod an okay and my eyes wander to his collarbone, where an undershirt is visible under his sweater. I quickly look up at his elephant tattoo and my mind already starts scrambling to keep me from thinking about my dream.

"I didn't know you were good at math," I tell him as I flip through my book for a distraction.

"There's a lot of things you don't know about me." His voice is smooth and flows so easily at his volume despite the base and minor raspy-ness. It was soothing if anything when he was speaking calmly.

"Mhmm, and maybe for the better." I surprise myself to see that I'm joking with him. After a long day, I'm tired of being so serious and worried about schoolwork. I smile slightly so that he sees this.

Before he replies though, I cut him off to ask him a question. The image was burning in the back of my head and I just had to know, "Yo, does Mr. Hemly eat ass?" I refer to our teacher.

His eyebrows furrow before his expression turns into one of amusement. "What?!" He answers loudly and the attention causes us to turn away with stifled laughs to the books that laid in front of us.

I sit at the kitchen island doing as I promised myself earlier except I'm eating a bowl of fruits. I pet Nami with one hand while I reach and eat with the other.

I can see Zion approaching from my peripheral, extending his arm to my bowl and I shoo him away.
"Adrianne, you always finish them before I could get any," He says while trying to reach again.

I would usually have a rebuttal but I ignore him as I focus on Teen Wolf that plays on my laptop.

"Zion, you don't ever touch the fruit I buy until you see someone else eating it." I look up to see our father who appears from the stairwell and enter the kitchen. "Exactly," I can't help but agree while I wait for Zion to finish taking what he wanted.

"Pops, why you always got to take her side? Damn, we could tell who's your favorite." He says, taking a seat besides me while eating. Nami stands up and jumps onto his lap from mine.

"Now you know I love both of y'all equally. I done defended you just as much when it counted," My father says, closing the fridge with a water bottle in hand.

"It ain't his fault I make more sense," I add to annoy him. He then mocks me, reminds me that he's older and then asks why I'm not rotting away in my room as usual or outside kicking rocks.

"Why, what you got planned? You're gonna bring someone over?" I ask, looking away from the screen for a second. I know Zion goes out a lot but I have yet to see him bring a girl home. I was thankful for that. Most I've seen were his friends who would come in for a few minutes at most to either use the bathroom or wait for Zion while he ran up to his room for something.

"And that's my cue," My father says before taking a sip of water. As he walks out of the kitchen, he says, "Use protection, son! And respect my property."

I cringe and look at Zion with a sour expression. "Ew," I say and he laughs. "First of all, no, I am not having a girl over," He says this loudly so that dad can hear from the stairwell. "God knows you need it! Tired of them heartbreak melodies I hear across the hall every damn night." He replies.

By now the show was paused and I was laughing from this rebuttal. "Okay that was mean, I'm sorry. We'll stop bullying you," I say, "I enjoy the love song melodies you record."

I began to wonder what ever happened between him and Jazmine. Neither of them seemed like they'd be willing to open up to me about it though, considering I'm his sister. It would be awkward. I understand.
I could see them being a match made in heaven, though. With his playful ways and her bubbly personality. Maybe one day it will all come to light without me ever having to ask.

"Yeah, you better cause I'm gonna record some shit later this week and need your opinion on it." He gets up from the island and walks around me, placing Nami back on my lap as he leaves.
