Oneshot VII - First Day Jitters

"Daddy, I don't want to go in." I look down at my daughter, tears forming in her eyes. Aaron steadies the double stroller where the twin toddlers squirm around and whine. I look into Aaron eyes, with me searching them. I see pain and sorry in them, as if he's forcing his daughter to do something unfathomable. Our daughter Marina did inherit the timidness that Aaron has. I sigh and crouch down so I meet Marina's eye level.

"Listen Marina," I wipe a strand of golden brown hair away from her face, also fixing her bangs so they look proper and clean. "You're gonna do great. No need to be nervous, darling."

I chuckle and I hear Aaron stride over. I see him kneel beside me. "Don't worry Marina." He coos in a comforting tone. "If you need anything, just tell the teacher, okay?"

A tear rolls down Marina's rosy cheek and I feel my heart shatter and fall to the pit of my stomach. I wipe away the tear and glance into the classroom to see a little girl at the door. She has strawberry blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She's wearing a pink short sleeved shirt with acid washed jean shorts with Converse on her feet. She smiles at my daughter and waves kindly.

"Umm, are you okay?" Marina looks down shyly and shrugs. The little girl pouts and walks over to Marina. She holds out her hand and Marina looks at it confusingly.

"I'm Aphrodite, wanna come and play with me?" She asks kindly and flashes a white, toothy smile. Marina looks up and I see her face heat up. I watch Marina nod and smile.

"Y-Yeah, sure." Marina takes the kind girl's hand and Aphrodite leads her in. Aaron and I both get up and our hands intertwine, fingers and all.

"Look at our little girl, growing up so fast." Aaron whispers. 

I nod and whisper back, "Ya, but we still have the twins."

We both look back at the twins to see him gurgling in happiness and kicking around.

"Yeah we do, but-"

We are soon cut off with Marina coming by and hugging my legs. She sighs and says, "Goodbye, daddy. I'll miss you."

I coo and pat her head lovingly. "I'll miss you too." She heads over to Aaron and hugs his legs. Aaron pats her back and she waves before sprinting back to her friend. Aaron and I look at each other and smile.

"Wanna head out?" I ask. He nods and sees that I'm concerned for Marina. He rests his palm on my jaw.

"She'll be okay, I promise."

I nod into his jaw and he chuckles. "Let's go somewhere fun, okay?"

I smile and nod once more. Our hands let go and he pushes the stroller out of the school, with me leaving all my worry behind.
