CHAPTER FOUR: MAELSTROM, 5015
Anyone would think working for the largest Corporation in the world would be such an amazing job. Well, not until you have your best friend as your boss, no. I closed the lid of my eyes and inhaled, what a manly scent this man has, but, that's beside the point.
"If I may insist, Sir, you can't push the meeting again for another day, Mr. Yoshimura demands that you meet him today." I explained to my boss.
God knows this job will literally be the death of me. Inside the office had always been cold, but today it feels a little hotter as I feel my head boil from frustration with my irresponsible employer. Sure he's my best bud, but work is work. I can't keep enabling him and his lazy arse to keep ditching the work he's responsible for. One, two, three, four... I counted as I calm myself down.
"Fine, I'll meet him later this afternoon, but you have to promise me we'll hang out this evening." Luther demanded. Demanded? Do you even have the right to demand at this point?
I contemplated if I should accept his silly deal or not, but it's not like I actually have a choice, do I? This big baby will throw a tantrum if I didn't agree with him. I deeply sighed. I hate when he does this. "You should smile more Korby." Luther grinned at me, I swear I could hear the smoke out of my ears when I heard him say that. Smile more? Fuck you. Who would smile and be happy with this much work you're putting them in?
Luther Waltzwolken, CEO, he's the current head of the RITMEN Corporation. His dark wavy hair slung around by his big and manly fingers as he slits them through, his thick brows that would make any girl jealous, his eyelashes that flutters every time he closes his eyes, his straight-pointed nose and his golden eyes with little tints of red... Of course, anyone would be mesmerized by his beauty. I was too when I first met him. But now? If I had to pick my most hated person in the world, you guessed it, it would be Luther.
He doesn't know how to deviate his professional issues from his casual ones. Thankfully, he isn't like this with anyone else but me, because if he was, it would greatly damage the empire's reputation. It's like, having a baby for a king.
I rolled my eyes, this is so annoying. "You would be fired if you rolled your eyes at your boss like that, you know?" I hear Luther snicker as he plays with his pen.
"Lucky for you, you're your boss's best friend." I saw him smirk. And? Should I be thankful for that? Let's set this straight, YOU should be thankful to me because I am your assistant, you dim-witted spoiled brat. Vanity is bad for your health, your narcissism will be the end of you.
Clear, isn't it? I'm mad at this guy. He makes my life more hellish than any girlfriend would. No wonder I can't look for a girlfriend even at 26! Argggh! Forcing it, I smiled at him and agreed with his conditions. I could see his eyes instantly lit up when he heard me, this is insane. After the conversation ended and Luther dismissed me, I immediately walked out of his office to go back to my desk. The plan was to call Mr. Yoshimura's assistant and inform them that the meeting will proceed, but greater things come first, I need to get lunch.
I walked through the busy halls of the RITMEN Corp's main branch, smiling as I imagine the sweet taste of my favorite chocolate bar that I left home to munch at lunch, to ease some of the stress Luther gives me. I waited for the elevator doors to open, looking side to side to check if I should wait for anyone to join me. I dusted off my soft brown coat and fixed my messy medium-length dyed brown hair as I wait for people to come. But there was no one, everyone's busy it seems, so I shrugged It off and entered.
With my chin up and smile intact, I clicked for the ground floor. I'm so happy, I deserve the chocolate, I really do. After everything Luther puts me in, I need something to de-stress me, and luckily! For me? That's my Cadbury. Honestly, that's the only good thing the people from the past created. It's literal heaven. My mouth went watery as I imagine the sweet taste of the chocolate when it finally melts inside my mouth.
My smile soon wore off as I hear the intruder alarm ring right when the doors opened. The sounds of hurried footsteps came along with running people towards the elevator. Who in the world would attack RITMEN Corp in broad daytime? Things happened so fast that I couldn't process anything.
The next thing I know is the feeling of death looking straight into my light brown eyes. She was standing there, in the middle of the piled-up bodies of the Corp's employees with her dark outfit and black silky leather skirt, heels, and two guns. Her red locks waved like her many weapons would as she walked with her long legs. Her heels clicking as she goes near me. If things were a little different, I would praise her for looking like a Greek Goddess. Her face was hidden with a snake-structured mask, engulfing half her face but her red matte lipstick was enough to make me believe that she definitely is a rare beauty. Without taking her gaze off, she walked with grace towards me.
My legs felt noodley as she clicks her tongue. Like a small animal wrapped by a poisonous snake, I couldn't make a move. With a sweaty forehead and a breaking voice, I tried to calm myself down.
My life can't end like this, right? I haven't even gotten a bite of that sweet crumpylicious chocolate! My face puffed as I began to feel the irritation come up my head. I can feel myself exploding any moment now, but I was instantly pulled back to reality when a loud bang from a barrel rang through my ears. Where did that come from?
"Shit! That prick's got some good aim." I was frozen... she sounds even more beautiful than she looks. Her voice was like a slitter of a snake, - silent with a hint of danger. For a moment, I didn't think about what I was doing. My mouth suddenly blurted out a "Marry me." And before I could realize it, the reaper's face was in front of me. Did she hear what I said? What a beautiful scent for a bad woman, I thought.
What's wrong with me? I know I should've been afraid of her. I should have... My eyes scanned the place and the skin in my whole body went up. She's the devil... She killed everyone. She killed them all, and yet. Maybe Luther's not the only crazy one.
"Lucky, it's still not you." Her tongue clicked once more. She must really be pissed off.
"Ah, fuck this." She tossed me off to the side as she shot everyone that was on the elevator, leaving no one alive. She walked back, not minding the bodies scattered and piled up on the floor. What? Is she not going to kill me? My creaking voice went out before she could exit the door.
"Where are you going?" She halted in response.
She slowly turned around, with a smirk on her face, she gave me a flying kiss. What could that possibly mean? Why did she let me leave after killing everyone in here? My surroundings went blurry when I tried to stand up and go after her, the last thing I remember is Luther screaming my name, and begging for me to wake up.
The following weeks went by like normal after that, Luther and my colleagues wanted me to visit a therapist in case, so for precaution, I did. Luther was back to normal after being a paranoid arse when I woke up at the hospital. My body was fine though, it didn't even have at least one scratch. But something didn't feel right, I know it was so wrong... I kept looking for the thrill my body felt when she looked straight into my eyes. I couldn't forget her voice, her lips, everything about her. My being wanted to see her again, I must be crazy, I ignored the thought.
