Narrator's POV

"Are you sure you can do it?" Min asked while the two of you made your way towards Lan Qiren's lecture hall. The sound of the chattering ringing in your ears as you rolled your eyes at your companion because of his constant questioning. Listening to white noise makes you relax but you were a bundle of nerves right now and he was adding to it.

"We already discussed this over and over. Besides, there's no turning back now." You angrily whispered at him, making sure no one was within earshot. Boys and Girls are not to be in the same vicinity in the Gusu Lan's and if you were caught, let's just say that would be disastrous. He sighs and looks ahead, composing himself. Min has always been the worrywart between the two of you. You had now tied your mask just to conceal the fact you are a girl.

The two of you entered the lecture hall, as you gave your greetings to the ones who were already there, taking a seat beside someone who you have not greeted yet. You gripped the bound of papers sewn together. It was your way of communicating, seeing as speaking will blow your cover. You scribble out a greeting to him as he nods. You were nervous as hell because he was one of the twin jades of the clan. Lan Zhan or was better known as Lan Wangji. Min sat on your other side, seeing as friends often sat next to each other.

The chattering you heard while going up had now become louder as a trio made their way inside, as you caught sight of one of them, you evidently widened your eyes in recognition. He's the one Lan Zhan caught! You saw the sharp gaze the other one had as the one dressed in purple looked nervous and didn't meet his eye. But was shocked you further was that he even had the nerve to take the seat next to him. You swiveled your head when he looked further on his right to know who sat beside Lan Zhan.

Min looked at you with confusion and saw the purple guy looking curiously at the both of you. He gave out a small wave, which may have put the latter at ease, seeing as there's bound to be more guys who are not as uptight as the one beside him. You were still looking at Min who had now smirked at you. Thank whoever who's above that you have a mask that hides the blushing mess of embarrassment that is now on your face.

You were saved when Lan Qiren has finally made his appearance. After the initial greeting, he rolled out a long scroll, no doubt containing SOME of the rules. It ended just a bit parallel behind you which made you sweat drop. He really lives up to his reputation huh. He then reads out a loud all of it. You noticed the purple guy looking at your side and looked at him taking a sneak peek at both you and Lan Zhan.

"Since no one read the rules from the rock, I'm repeating them. Let's see who can violate them and claim ignorance again." He got your attention and made you sit upright once again, faking up that you have been listening to it when in truth, you're much more curious about that guy. "Someone's still not listening. Very well. Let's change the topic." He stroked his beard as he called on the purple guy. Wei Ying, huh. The guy enthusiastically made his presence known. "Who was the first in the cultivation world to focus on the rise of his clan instead of his sect?" Lan Qiren questioned him as he cheerfully answered, "The founder of Qishan Wen Clan, Wen Mao!"

"What was the profession of the founder of the Qinghe Nie Clan?" He fired yet again but Wei Ying was able to answer yet again. "A butcher!" His questions were all common knowledge and then he went with a situational one, that was a common one. "There was an executioner with parents, a wife, and children. He died a sudden death, his body left on the streets for 7 days. With the build-up of resentful energy, he started to haunt and kill. What should be done?" There was only one way that they know, which was the orthodox way. Wei Ying didn't answer immediately which prompted Lan Qiren to ask Lan Zhan to enumerate the steps.
