Chapter 5

Narrator's POV

The water was now slowly raging as if it has a mind of its own, but what baffled you was how excited Wei Wuxian looked at the impending doom all of you are in. The water formed hands, reaching out to every one of you, but the Twin Jades were able to push them back. Lan Zhan slashed at them, while another wave had showed up, Lan Zhan couldn't get to it fast, but Wei Ying was able to defend. "Fine blade. What's its name?" Lan Wangji asked, as the other nonchalantly replied, "Whatever" You wanted to burst into laughter at his answer, because who would name their sword whatever?

"It has spirituality. Calling it casually is disrespectful." Lan Zhan said as both of their swords glided through the air. "When Uncle Jiang bestowed this sword to me, he let me name it. I wasn't satisfied with any of my namings and I wanted him to help me name it so I said, Whatever. After the sword was forged, it's really named Whatever." He explained as the sword went back to its scabbard. "See, I didn't lie." He smugly proved his point. You could see how Wei Wuxian enjoyed teasing a serious guy like Lan Zhan as he wasn't deterred to cease any of his advances.

But his cheerful demeanor wasn't enough for you to be distracted. You saw from the corner of your eyes something in the water, other than the ghouls. You whipped your head fast to see if you can catch it with your own eyes, which startled Min, who was quick to stand beside you. "Woah, are you okay?" but you didn't answer, as if you didn't hear anything. You continued to look at the spot which you were sure there was something but felt the energy much more closer.

Jiang Cheng sensed something creeping up behind him and slashed at it before it does anything to him. "Be careful! Something's in the water!" Jiang Wanyin warned as his boat rocks. You tried your hardest to concentrate on which would be the next target, and you whip your gaze towards the boat of Su She, as their boats rock heavily. Lan XiChen first plunges his sword towards the water and what comes out were black tendrils. Upon seeing those, everyone knew of the grave danger they are in now.

No one dare uttered a word as all of those who were capable plunged their swords to calm down the raging waters. They thanked all of you as you nodded. "Pull up the net." Lan Xichen ordered and yet none were caught in the nets. You gripped your chest, unnoticeably by others. Not only were the waters becoming darker, even the sky mimicked it. Even though the waters were raging a while ago, this was dangerous. The waterborne abyss was ready to strike as it breaks all of the boats you were all in, but you managed to ride your sword. In under no circumstances will I let them know I'm a girl. Knowing that your clothes will cling to you when you get wet and no matter how big it is on you, your chest will surely show.

The 7 of you reconvene, as some of their breath was released when they saw you safe. None of them know why, but they get the sense of wanting to protect you. I must be going crazy. The 7 of you break off into teams, with you obviously with Min. Black tendrils shoot off to attack you but you were agile in dodging them. You saw the others have already rescued the ones in the water which freed the both of you that responsibility and thus you opted to investigate on the size of the waterborne abyss. The known method of killing it was to have the lake be drained and let it stay barren for a couple of years. But there was another one, after surveying it, you shook your head towards Min. It's too large. Your head snapped towards Jiang Cheng's voice, calling out Wei Wuxian, you didn't pay Min any mind as you hurriedly went to where they were and saw Lan Zhan was able to fish him out.

You looked at the both of them as you glided alongside Lan Zhan, as you held on to Wei Ying's hand, unbeknownst to you of several men's thoughts. His hand is so small and soft. Why? You all zoom out of the zone towards the safety of the town. When all of you have landed, that was only the time when you felt the tiredness of the entire trip. You looked at Min with tired eyes as he beckons you to him and places his hand around your shoulder and lets you rest your head on his shoulder.
