BLOOD MONEYchapter forty-three ; letharia vulpina
[ season three - episode nineteen ]The pain ached inside her bones, it caused a hollowness in her chest. She felt consumed by the pain, unsure where there was an outlet. It was like a cherry pit stuck in her throat. She had been through many things in her life, day by day she had experienced more pain, every time she told herself it couldn't get any worse, and each time she was proved wrong.
Her entire world was shattering around her. It was out of control. She was out of control. Closing that door inside of their mind was supposed to be it, it was supposed to be the end. A door being closed to all things bad. Her life, their lives were supposed to take a turn for the better, not come crashing down like a hurricane. With intertwined hands, the two of them sat in silence, their heads resting on the wall, their eyes staring up at the hospital ceiling, both contemplating how it had come to this. What had brought them to this exact moment? Was it something they had done wrong? Did they do something bad that caused them all of this pain? They waited. Waited. Waited. And waited. For two days, so far, and still, the two of them knew nothing.
Kinsey's eyes were swollen and red from the tears and lack of sleep. The only reason they were dry now, was simply because she had run out. She was now numb. Just an empty vessel of pain. Allison had been by her side since the moment it happened, even when Chris came to take over, she refused to leave. Not for food. Not for a drink. Not even for a shower, and hell did it show. It wasn't just because Kinsey couldn't bear to leave the door unguarded, but neither could she. It never occurred to her that Isaac might just be her friend too.
Until they could see him, until they could find out how he was, they weren't leaving. She had always known that her family was her rock, that she would be lost without them, the last forty-eight hours had only solidified that mindset. Chris had been willing to put aside the entire werewolf thing behind him because he had seen his niece with Isaac, how him being a werewolf meant nothing to her, the two of them would be just the same if he was human. The two of them cared for each other more than he knew, and frankly, Isaac was beginning to feel a part of their insanely messed-up family. Maybe it was the fact they couldn't quite get the boy out of their apartment, but he had become a vital part of all of their lives, not just Kinsey's.
This was why it was so hard for the three of them to be told that no matter how much they saw Isaac as a part of their family, he simply wasn't. Not in the eyes of the law or the hospital, who'd kept them sitting outside of his ICU room for the past two days, barely letting them peek inside through the small window in the door, Chris had to pry updates out of them, but all they got was that Isaac was alive. Though it was good, they wanted details.
Scott and Melissa stepped out of the elevator, planning on visiting Isaac before Scott headed to school, the last place he wanted to be with everything going on, but he had made a promise to himself and his mom that he intended to keep, and frankly, school might just have been the kind of distraction that he needed. They had put off visiting for the past two days, neither could quite bring themselves to do it, sitting at home knowing that Isaac wasn't in their spare room sleeping at night was already hard enough, and that didn't even involve seeing him in his poor state. The two had spent the last two days sitting around the phone, waiting for an update on either him or Stiles. Nothing had come from either of them.
