Being quirkless in a quirk-based society wasn't easy, but at least Midoriya wasn't alone. No, because his best friend Kacchan was also quirkless and together they were stronger than apart. That's the one thing they learned over the course of their 10 year long life.
"Oi! Leave him alone! Don't you have better things to do?!"
Midoriya smiled when he saw the familiar ash blonde hair appear in the corner of his eye.
"Didn't you hear me, fuck off!" Bakugou hissed.
"Come on man, it's not worth it," some guy mumbled. "He's just gonna get the teacher involved again."
"Yeah, that's all you've got going for you, teacher's pet!"
Bakugou scowled, glaring at them as they left while Midoriya crawled up from the ground. Teacher's pet... The only reason the teacher even looked at him was because he was smart! Even if he got them involved, those bullies always got off way too easy!
"You really need to learn how to stand up for yourself, Izuku."
"I know... I'm sorry you had to come and save me again, Kacchan," Midoriya mumbled, flinching when he touched a bad bruise on his forehead.
"Come on, let's get you to the nurse's office," Bakugou sighed. It was routine by now. One of them would get beat up and the other would try to stand up for them. Bakugou's success rate was a lot higher than Midoriya's on that one, but that didn't mean the green head didn't try.
"Oh, it's you boys again," the nurse sighed as they walked in. "You know the drill, let's make this quick, I have places to be."
Even the nurse cared very little about them. Taking care of their injuries was like a chore to them, even if it was their literal job. Midoriya didn't mind though, as long as he got treated it was all the same. He got used to the low level of respect people held for the quirkless. Bakugou, on the other hand, couldn't stand it. He had tried to stand up for himself, tried to get them to listen to him, to respect him as a person, but he'd only gotten in trouble for it.
"That should do it," the nurse muttered after putting a bandaid on Midoriya's scraped knee. "Now get lost."
Bakugou was happy to oblige, quickly pulling Midoriya out of there.
"I hate this! Why does everyone treat us like crap!" he exclaimed, stomping against the wall and hissing in pain afterwards.
"You shouldn't be yelling like that, Kacchan! Someone could hear!" Midoriya told him.
"I'm just sick and tired of this shit... Aren't you?" Bakugou asked. He felt beaten and defeated. How long had he tried to stand up in a society that obviously didn't want them? Even if they were still kids, even if his parents always tried to sugarcoat things, he knew things weren't getting any better. If anything, things would only get worse as they grew up.
Midoriya knew that too. He knew they had no future without a quirk, not really. They'll be looked down upon their whole lives... So he just tried to keep his head down, to stay in the shadows and hoped nobody cared enough to see him. Midoriya just wanted to go about his day as quietly as possible in order to attract the least amount of trouble. They were true opposites in that way, yet their lack of a quirk still bound them together.
"You know there's nothing that I want more than being treated like an equal," Midoriya frowned. "But not all people are born equal. It's completely unfair."
"The system is unfair," Bakugou grumbled, slamming the door open. School had been over for about half an hour already, but they were always the last kids to leave since the last bell was a signal for the bullying rush hour. Now that they were outside, the sun was shining brightly in their faces. "Wanna go to the park? We could get some ice cream since I didn't lose my pocket money this week."
