Third Person POV
Pain.
That's what she felt sitting across him in this enclosed diner. Looking into those caramel brown eyes and fighting the urge to sympathize with them was the toughest thing she had ever done. She had to remind herself that she was furious at him.
"We can't do this anymore, Devon." She finally broke the awkward silence at the table.
"Can we just look past this, Alisha? I made a mistake and I'm apologizing to you." he spoke.
"A mistake? A mistake is you forgetting to call me or answer my texts, what you did is beyond that, you betrayed me, Dev." She scoffed at him.
He sighed and straightened up, "Fine. You want to stretch this thing then go on. Tell me everything I have done wrong but I'll let you know that all of it wasn't my fault. If it weren't for you and your constant nagging then none of this would have happened. Now you are basically throwing away two years of us!"
Alisha was about to scream when she was interrupted by the old waiter, "Two strawberry milkshakes for you two love birds." Love? Yeah no.
Alisha waited for the him to leave then pointed her finger at Devon accusingly, "How dare you blame me for all this? All I did was trust-"
The waiter returned to their table, "Ah! forgot your cookies." he said with an apologetic smile and left after placing the four chocolate chip cookies on the table.
Alisha resumed, "I trusted you, Dev. I should have known you were-" The waiter returned to their table once again, "Silly me, here are your fries. This old age is really-"
"Oh stop it!" Alisha slammed the table with her palm. "Can you not see that we are in the middle of something? Who even ordered all of this?!"
"I did." Devon speaks up with extreme calm in his voice, the opposite of his girlfriend's voice.
"Of course you did. You probably thought this is one of our dates where you would tell me how much you love me and I would fall right into your trap of lies. We are done, Devon. Do not speak to me or contact me ever again. If you do I'll destroy you, You know I can."
With this, She got up from the table and walked towards the door. She stopped, turned around, walked back to the table and grabbed the cookies and fries and walked right back out without looking back. The diner echoed the sound of her heels hitting the ground and everybody stared at her. They always did.
"I'll pay for it, don't worry." Devon told the waiter.
Alisha walked to her black Aventador, got in and drove. She munched on the cookies. They were delicious she thought and felt bad for screaming at the waiter. She needed to distract herself from the pain she was feeling. She looked outside the window and noticed that the streets of Atherton were quite empty. She entered her gated neighborhood and noticed the watchman was not there and there was security gathered around the first two mansions.
She wanted to know what had happened, but there was already too much on her plate. She drove straight to her home. It was a huge house, one could call it a mansion. She stepped into the foyer and felt something strange. Nobody from the house staff was present, She locked the doors, walked up the stairs and decided to stop by her sister's room. She knocked on her door.
"Come in!"
Aria, who was younger to Alisha by just one year was sitting in one of those egg swings by the window reading some old classic book. Alisha hated the concept of books. She handed over the fries to her sister as she took a seat on her bed.
"Ew, these fries are cold." Aria said making a face of disgust.
"Just microwave them." Alisha replied.
"Mind you, everybody knows microwaved fries do not taste the same as just-fried fries." She seemed pretty serious when it came to fries. "Anyway, how did it go with Devon? Please don't tell me you took him back."
"Nope. Broke it off for good. He was really blaming me for our break up." Alisha said.
"The audacity of that man." Aria hissed. "I'm glad you left him, he was too much of a prude and bully anyway."
Alisha made a "hmm" sound and asked, "Where's dad? The staff isn't there too."
"I think I saw dad leave today morning when I was down getting breakfast, he had two suitcases with him. He saw me but didn't bother to inform and I didn't bother to ask. Family goals aren't we?" Aria said winking as Alisha shook her head. "As for the staff I have no idea, I have been in my room all day."
Alisha sighed, "I should just go back to my job and you to your Uni, this back-to-home vacation came with no good, I'll text dad about it."
After ten minutes of looking for flights a frustrated Alisha asked, "Why are all flights booked?"
"No idea, I called the airport and apparently they are shutting down all flights in and out of California." Aria said and took a seat on the couch switching on the TV, "When I asked why he started talking about some virus and asked me to check the news."
"In a lab back in Los Angeles, a scientist tried to erase the last traces of the infamous Corona Virus. A famous study was established, scientists from all over the world came forth with their own theories in hopes of finding a cure."
"Please don't tell me we have another virus. We just got back to normal." Alisha said.
"Amongst the chaos took place the birth of Glazoa-26. A mutated version of the Corona virus itself, but far more deadly. It enters a host body and burns major central neurons, causing the host to lose common mental and physical senses and making them zombie like. Many cases have been reported in the state of California. WHO says its best to stay locked in the safety of our homes..."
"You have got to be shitting me, How is this even real!?" Aria yelled at the screen.
A loud bang echoed in the house and startled them. "I locked the door and no one is home." Alisha states and looks at Aria who shrugs, "Dad?" Alisha asked loudly.
Aria swats her arm asking her to shut up, She grabbed a baseball bat from the drawer and Alisha held her heels in her hands as they stepped out of the bedroom. "Stay close." Aria whispered to her sister.
The reporter on the TV still goes in the distance "...this is what some people would call, The zombie apocalypse."
