"What just happened?" I asked totally confused as to what just happened

"Is that girl our new sister?" Skylynn asked.

"I- I think so?" Hayes said and I set Sky back down on the ground.

"Do you think Will would know anything?" I said and Hayes shrugged. I headed to my room grabbed my phone and flopped onto my bed quickly followed by Hayes and Sky.

I pressed his contact and it started ringing, so I put it on speaker.

W-Make it quick lil bro, I'm studying.
N-Hey I was wondering-
W- Look bro I'm sure whatever you get her she'll love it.
N-What? No this isn't about-
W-And use protection.
N-Will this is about our sister!
W-What's wrong with Sky?
N-Not Sky, um, Amberly.

the other end went silent.

N- Will?
W-How do you know about Amberly?
H-She just popped up out of nowhere, asking for Mom and Dad's signatures for Emancipation or something.
W-Wait you've seen her?!"
N-Yeah, what do you know about her?
W-Not much, just that she never came home from the hospital, mom and dad said she had a heart thing.
N-Whoa...
W-Tell me anything else you find out, but I gotta go, later.
N-Alright, bye.

I pressed end call.

"Wow..." I was speechless.
"Mom and Dad basically said she was dead..." Hayes mumbled

I heard the front door open, indicating mom and dad got home. Hayes got up and went to his room and Sky went to hers.

However I decided to do a little investigating. I quietly went down the stairs and sat down five steps from the bottom, I could hear their conversation perfectly.

"Honey, I really think we should do this." Mom said.
"Elizabeth, I'm not so sure."

"We can't just let the girl get emancipated! She's 15, almost 16 for God sakes a girl that young cannot handle the world on her own. How is she gonna earn money? Where is she gonna live hmm? And if she doesn't get emancipated that means another two years she has to spend in foster care, we can't let that happen."

"Sweetie this isn't bringing in a little puppy. We're taking in a teenager. You saw her, she's trouble. She has it written all over her, the nose piercing, and-"

"I cannot believe you're labeling our own child. That's what she is Chad, our child. We've missed out on almost 16 years of her life, you don't feel the least bit guilty for that? She's grown up without a family, and I blame myself." I heard my mom say, choking up.

"Okay, okay calm down sweetie. It's going to be alright, we can meet with her social worker and we'll go from there."

Wait, are they gonna?
