If she had to describe the feeling of the sand, she would say it was like a cloud, or what she imagined a cloud to feel like. That was until the weight came.

At first, she sank gently, the sand seeming to pull her farther and farther from the surface. She read in a book once that the sand moved faster when you moved, keeping this in mind she tried to remain as still as possible to slow her descent.

She knew Loki would come to save her, but the panic started to send in as she felt the weight of the sand pushing against her even more harshly than it had previously.

Her lungs soon started to ache and her air was quickly diminishing. She felt the sand clog her ears and she knew if she were to open her eyes millions of miniature sand particles would flood her vision.

'Loki, help'. She longed to scream out as her mid started to grow hazy.

Two seconds after Y/n had disappeared Loki frantically started to move around. He spun around searching for something to use as a rope. He did not even have time to think about what to do, he just acted.

He quickly found a u-shaped vine and gave it a rough tug, finding it suitable he cut half of it down. Quickly he wrapped it around his body tying it securely around his body and then shed off his sword and dagger as fast as he could. He then took a deep breath before diving into the pit of sand after her.

Silence. Dead silence other than the occasional popping from the fire-spitting could be heard while the pair was under the sand.

The swampy landscape was lifeless without their presence to alter it. The only movement that occurred was from the vine shaking occasionally from whatever was happening below the lightning sand.

That was at least until a massive rodent casually strolled past the sinkhole. It stuck its nose into the sand and sniffed deeply before it huffed and continued walking.

Moments after the unusually sized rodent strode away Loki's hand shot up, grasping the vine tightly and he began to climb it. Slowly his head emerged from the sand followed by Rose's both gasped for air as Loki continued to pull them up.

Coughing harshly Y/n crawled off of him and made it to solid ground collapsing on her stomach.

Loki moved after her and fell on his back beside her. Both breathed heavily occasionally spitting out the sand that had gotten into their mouths.

Recovering faster than Y/n, Loki shakily stood up and helped her sit up against a tree. As gently as he could he started brushing off the sand that was caked onto her face and body.

As he worked, he heard a twig snap and his eyes shot up to the rock that the tree was next to. Above them sat one of the massive rodents. It did nothing but watch them at the moment, and since Y/n had not noticed, Loki kept the information to himself.

Moving faster now he brushed as much sand off her body as he could. Y/n blinked her eyes open slowly and looked at him in defeat.

"We will never make it out of here alive, we might as well die here". She said tearfully, she was spent from the last few moments, the last few days even and her emotions were finally getting the best of her.

Loki leaned over at kissed her softly before helping her to rise. "No, no do not say that because we already have succeeded". He said trying to keep the uneasiness out of his voice.

He quickly bent over and collected his discarded weapons and strapped the dagger back in its sheath but kept his sword out, knowing the rodent was watching.

"I mean what are the three terrors of the fire swap?" He asked as he walked back over to her.

"One, the flame spurts, no problem at all. There's a popping sound so we can continue to avoid them with ease". Wrapping an arm around her he led them forwards on the path.

"Two, the lightning sand, but you were clever enough to discover that so we can now avoid them as well in the future".

He stopped talking then, not continuing his list, but Rose knew he was forgetting one of the terrors.

"But Loki, what about the ROUS?" she asked pausing their walking.

"Rodents of unusual size? I don't think they exist". Loki was unable to deny their existence however when one came flying at him.

It had jumped down from a tree branch and now had Loki pinned under it.

Y/n screamed in fright and watched as Loki fought against the creature. Thinking quick she looked around for something to use as a weapon and found a decaying tree branch. She rushed over to it and picked it up before rushing back over to Loki to help him.

Loki let out a scream of pain when the rodent bit into his shoulder, as it pulled away it left a bloody mess, but at the moment Loki could not bother with his injury.

He saw Y/n come into view and start to beat the creature's back with the tree branch. It yelped in pain and hopped off Loki to go attack her instead. With the creature distracted, Loki reached for his sword that he had dropped when it had tackled him.

Once he had his sword in his grasp he spun around and tackled the creature, this time coming out on top. He ran the rodent through quickly, its blood quickly gushing out from its wound.

Loki stood up as it tried to run away, he caught it however before it could leave. Stabbing the animal again it cried out pathetically, its voice sounding like that of a dying pig. He lodged his sword into it one last time before it finally collapsed over dead.

Y/n rushed over to Loki and wrapped him tightly in her embrace. "Loki! Oh my love are you alright? Your bleeding!" She cried out pulling back from him when she noticed his blood-soaked shoulder.

"Tis but a scratch" He joked trying to lighten the mood.

Y/n only frowned and bent over ripping at the hem of her skirts. She ripped at it until she had a bandaged size piece of cloth. Straightening back up she instructed him to hold out his arm, and he listened to her as he scanned their surroundings.

She hurriedly wrapped his wound to the best of her ability and then examined her work. "It's not perfect but it will have to do for now" She stated looking back up at his face.

"Thank you, darling". Loki said pulling her to kiss him once again. Their lips met in a passionate kiss, their fear and pain seeping into it. Though neither wanted to stop Loki pulled away knowing that they would have time for kissing later. For now, they were still in potential danger.

"As much as I love kissing you my darling we have to keep going".

Y/n knew he was right and nodded, but not before pecking his lips again.

Loki smiled at her and unsheathed his dagger, handing it over to her gently. "You might now be trined in combat but if danger comes again at least you will have a higher chance at survival".

She took it from his hands carefully and examined it. It was truly a beautiful dagger, its hilt decorated in golden snakes and the curve of the blade seemed eloquent.

"Thank you". She said gripping it in her hand tightly.

"I should have done it at the start," he said kissing her head before he grabbed her free hand with his own and set out again.

Now both on high alert and armed they continued their journey through the Bi-Frost.
