Onyx, hoping to catch Opal before she headed back to their den, was flying as fast as his wings could carry him.
"Whoah Onyx, your flying like there's a sale at the Sundrop, whats wrong?" She asked as he nearly crashed into her.
"I have an idea about how we could find out what's going on here," He answered.
"Ok, you've caught my attention," Opal responded, intrigued.
"We go beyond the wall," Onyx whispered.
"Are you insane?!" She shouted.
"Keep your voice down Opal," He urged, "I know it sounds crazy, but what choice to we have? The royal family isn't telling us anything and it's not like the guards and hunters are being forthcoming either."
"I see your point, but it's incredibly dangerous. If we're caught, we will be thrown into the dungeon," She reasoned.
"I'm not asking you to put yourself in danger. If you want to come with me, meet me at the crooked tree before school," Onyx called, quickly flying off.
Upon reaching his den, he was stopped by another classmate, Scorpion.
"I overheard you and Opal, I want to help."
"Uh, why?" Onyx asked, startled.
"I agree, no one's giving us any information. We have to figure out what's going on by ourselves," Scorpion answered.
"I guess we could use someone to cover for us until we're far enough away," He replied.
"Ok, just tell me when your leaving."
"Tomorrow, before school," Onyx answered.
"Got it Onyx. And, thanks for trusting me."
"Uh, anytime Scorpion," he replied, stunned.
--------------------
The next morning, Onyx woke up before the bell and began getting things ready. He maneuvered around his den mates and went over to the wall. He grabbed both his and Opal's backpacks, along with a few extras. He returned those to his nest and hid them, before making his way to Wolf's nest. He quickly and carefully slid his claw under his nest and grabbed his secret food stash. Moving as quietly as possible, he headed back to his own nest.
As soon as the bell rang, he shot out of his nest and flew outside. On his way to the crooked tree, he collided with Shade, one of his other classmates.
"Where in Nature's name are you going Onyx?" He asked.
"Excercise?" Onyx responded.
"With three backpackes. None of which seem to be packed with your school books?" Shade questioned.
"Do you want to go back to the way things were Shade?"
"What?"
"Just answer the question," Onyx demanded.
"Yes, I want to go back to the way things were. I want my freedom back," Shade answered.
"Then don't ask questions, and help Scorpion cover for Opal and I."
"I can promise to not ask questions, but I will not help Scorpion cover for you. If anyone finds out I'm involved in whatever you're doing, I'm getting my ass thrown in the dungeon,"
"Ok, I can live with that," Onyx agreed.
Onyx continued to the crooked tree, not turning his back until Shade was out of sight.
