Onyx nearly careened into Opal as he reached the crooked tree. Looking at each other, they nodded and flew over the wall as quickly and as quietly as they could. As soon as they were over, they ducked under the trees in order to avoid the gaze of the lookouts.
"I think we should rest Onyx, we have been flying for around half a day. Based on how far the hunters have had to go recently, I think we have at least a half a day left," Opal informed.
"I was hoping you would say that," Onyx gasped as he flopped to the ground, letting his wings droop around him.
Opal laughed but sat down next to him.
------------------------
Opal nudged Onyx awake, and Onyx opened his wings.
"I don't think we should fly," Opal said, "We don't know how much further we have and we don't want to alert anything that we're coming."
"I guess you're right Opal," Onyx growled, putting his wings back to his sides.
They walked for 3 full sun tilts before they came across something. Onyx grabbed Opal by the tail and dragged her behind a few trees. Together, they peered around them and saw what looked like hairless monkeys.
"What are those things?" Onyx whispered.
"I don't know, but they're tearing up the forest," Opal growled.
One of the monkeys turned around and saw them behind the trees. Opal saw this and grabbed Onyx's claw, dragging him behind her. Once Onyx had regained his balance, they shot into the sky and flew as fast as their wings could carry them.
Onyx suddenly took a sharp turn, slapping Opal with his tail as he did so. Opal turned with him, but craned her neck to see behind her. She gasped when she noticed that, if she squinted, she could just barely see the Glade. In their panic, they had nearly led the forest rippers straight to their home!
As soon as they thought they were in the clear, nets tangled their wings and they came crashing down. As soon as they hit the ground, they began thrashing, trying to free themselves.
A monkey stepped up to Opal and began inspecting her. As soon as he poked her wing, Opal lashed out and hit him with her tail. The monkey stumbled back and yelled something to the others. The other monkeys began fiddling with, what looked to be, a shiny box. As soon as one of them gestured to the leader, the monkeys surrounded Opal and Onyx.
Onyx did his best to fight off the monkeys surrounding him, and Opal did the same. One of the monkeys; however, was able to get close enough to Onyx to tie a rope around his snout. As soon as his snout was bound, he began thrashing with his claws. Even with his best efforts, the monkeys were able to bind his claws and they began picking him up and putting him into one of the shiny boxes.
"ONYX!" Opal cried right before the door was shut.
The last thing Onyx saw was a monkey narrowly avoiding Opal's jaws.
