saturday rolled around and sapnap, karl, and ranboo found themselves in the ravenette's bedroom getting ready for the party.
karl was having the time of his life, managing to convince the taller boy to let him paint his nails, one hand black and the other white, to match his mask.
after wasting a ridiculously long amount of time on their nails, sapnap interrupted the bonding to inform the two boys that they would be extremely late if they left it much longer.
"okay, i just need to change my shirt." karl responded quickly, tightly screwing the cap back onto the clear topcoat before dropping it onto the desk.
"i'm going to go get a drink of water before we go." the tallest boy spoke, "i'll leave you two to stare at each other while you get changed" he joked "just don't take too long." and on that, he strolled out, unnecessarily ducking his head under the doorframe as it was reflex for him.
karl dug through his backpack, pulling out a light blue shirt that he had bought with him.
sapnap watched as the other boy took off his t-shirt and replaced it with the new one.
karl walked over to stand in front of where sapnap was sat on the bed. "do my buttons up pretty please." he requested, sticking out his chest a bit to push the buttons in the ravenette's direction.
the shorter boy laughed, starting to do up the buttons as the brunette bought his hands up to his head.
"did you want to borrow a hoodie?" he asked quietly, distracted by the comforting feeling of the taller boys fingers threading gently though his hair.
"won't i be really hot if i wear a hoodie?" karl questioned, shifting to look down at the boy on the bed, still mindlessly playing with his locks.
the ravenette finished the top botton before dropping his hands to hold the others waist. "yeah, i just-" he cut himself off before feeling the others hands still, urging him to continue "i just thought you'd want to cover your arms." he spoke genuinely, knowing that the brunette was insecure of his cuts.
the taller boy stood back, moving away from the others touch, frowning. "what the fuck nick?" he spat, "one minute you're telling me how beautiful my scars are and the next you're urging me to cover them?" he questioned, shocked at the other.
the youngers boys mouth dropped open, "w-what? karl. no, that's not what i meant and- and you know that." he spoke quickly, choking on his words.
"sure nick." he spoke quietly, face now displaying a saddened look, breaking the others heart.
karl moved to grab a sweater from his bag, quickly throwing it on and pulling the sleeves down over his hands. "let's go." he choked out, clearly trying not to cry.
sapnap stood up abruptly, moving to take the others hands and push the sleeves away from where the brunette had been stretching them down "no, karl baby please, it came out wrong, i just mea-"
"stop wasting time we don't have sap, we're going to be late, you said it yourself." he shook the others hands off of his own, pulling the sleeves back down.
"karl that isn't fair."
karl picked up his phone and made his way to the door "don't say it isn't fair when you're the one in the wrong sapnap." he spoke quickly, and the ravenette could tell he was holding back tears.
without any more words the boys made their way down the stairs to see ranboo and niki sat in the kitchen, eating biscuits.
"oh hi guys." the taller boy spoke, holding his hand over his mouthful of food, swallowing before speaking again, "i did come for water but niki had just finished baking and i couldn't refuse." he explained light heartedly before standing up and sliding his mask back on.
"very nice," sapnap laughed, hoping he could defuse the tension that had followed him down the stairs. "now c'mon, we gotta bounce." he continued, picking up his keys from the counter.
niki scoffed lightly "please never use the word bounce in that context again." she giggled out.
"no promises." the ravenette raised a finger to point at his sister.
ranboo quickly gave the blonde girl a side hug, thanking her for the food before heading out to the car.
sapnap was driving them today, no designated driver necessary as the group was going to stay the night at clay's.
nick drove a small two door corsa, which had very minimal space in the back seat and so it was an unwritten rule that ranboo, having the longest legs, always rode shotgun. and, because of this, it was no shock when karl wordlessly climbed into the back.
the whole situation was normal until they were all in their respective places, sapnap beginning the short drive to the dirty blondes.
a silent minute passed until ranboo's voice filled the car "this is the only time i've ever felt like the silence isn't comfortable with our group." he laughed, shifting left in his seat and turning slightly to look at both the other boys.
when neither laughed along, or so much as spared him a word, his smile dropped under his mask and he quickly looked between the pair. "wait, why is it so awkward?" he questioned, anxiously "have i done something?"
"no boo you didn't do anything." the driver responded, briefly smiling to the boy in the passenger seat before refocussing on the road.
ranboo slowly nodded wordlessly, moving back to look out the windshield, choosing to just wait out the awkward car ride rather than filling the silence with the sound of his own desperate voice.
