Chapter One

Hello, my name is Clair. I'm 20 and was suppose to be part of the Nightshade Pack, but I happen to be one of the ones that didn't shift at all when I turned 18, so I'm basically the pack basic house bitch. My mother and father were pure bread werewolves and my dad was Alpha of our pack and my mom was Luna with alpha bloodline, but the only issue is that not only did she have alpha bloodline, my mother was half demon and half vampire, but those traits didn't get passed down to her.

My parents were hoping that if I didn't shift, they'd hoped maybe my mom's genes would come to play and maybe I was destined to be half vampire, half demon, but it didn't happen. I was lucky my parents were in charge of our pack, had it been anyone else, I can guarantee I'd probably be dead. But since I am the daughter of the Alpha and Luna, I was shown mercy and was assigned to do all of the cooking and cleaning, taking out the trash and doing basic years work. It was better than my parents wanting me to move away for my own safety although sometimes I wished I could've taken their offer because I do get bullied a lot.

Not by my parent's doing, but a few of the jock werewolves loved to pick on me and bully me, I'll even get covered up in bruises and cuts, but I play it off to my parents that I'm a ditz and hurt myself all the time. I made my way to the pack house and as I opened up the door, I tripped right away as my whole body fell to the floor and I heard a few laughs from behind me.

I turned around to see Athena and her friends laughing at me. "Aw did the little human bitch trip over a wire?" She taunted me and I just rolled my eyes and went inside this time stepping over the wire. I grabbed out a bunch of pasta, spaghetti sauce, and ground beef and decided spaghetti was going to be for dinner. There were only 8 of us here, not including myself which only made it 7.

I got all the plates and silverware set up and all the cups and napkins out as I started serving the spaghetti onto the plates and filled the glasses with milk and put the garlic bread into the middle of the table. Then I went to the front door and rang the bell. To me it was humorous to ring it because it felt as if I was notifying a bunch of dogs there was food ready. I let out a little smile and suddenly I felt someone push me hard onto the ground.

It was Athena and her other two friends and some of the guys who laughed at me. As soon as they seen my parents coming, they suddenly stopped and walked up to the table and sat down. I quickly got up and grabbed my plate and headed for the door when I felt a hand grab my shoulder. "Clair, why don't you sit down and eat with the rest of us? We haven't sat down as a family in 2 years." My dad said. I rolled my eyes. "I don't belong here dad, I'm not a wolf and I'm not anything special, ever since I found out two years ago that I'm nothing like anyone here, I'm nothing." I say. His face draws a bit of a blank but he finally nodded and let me go.

"It's okay Alpha Max, I'll sit with you like I have been been for the past two years. You guys are like my family anyways" She said and then shot me wink and a smile. This made my blood boil inside, but I knew I couldn't do anything about it because I wasn't a wolf. Instead I shot her a dirty look and left to go eat inside my parent's house, at least it was peaceful there.

I sat on the couch and ate my spaghetti, I was surprised how good it was, then again I've been doing all the cooking and cleaning for two years now, so should have everything mastered down. I get up from the couch and walk back outside to the pack house and as I got up to the door, I seen Athena sitting by my parents and all 3 of them were laughing together and really looked like a family. Technically we are all family because we are a pack, but since I've never shifted, Athena has come closer with my parents and it hurt me. It really did.

A tear drop fell down my cheek as I watched and then eventually wiped the tear away before going inside. "Oh Clair I was just chatting with your parents, my 21st birthday is next weekend and since well you do everything here basically, you're going to be making food for my party." She says giving me a sinister smile and I shot her a dirty look.

"Clair is that how you're going to look at the future Luna of the pack?" My dad asked and my mouth dropped open slightly. My parents chose her as future Luna? I would've been happy with anyone else like Lylah because she treated everybody here as an equal, even me, but they chose her! I shout in my head. I let out a sigh and started collecting everyone's dishes and putting them into the cart to wheel back to the kitchen.

I plugged up the sink pouring some dish soap in it letting the water get nice and hot and bubbly as I start putting in the silverware in because they need time to soak for a while otherwise it's hard to get the stuck on food off of them and then next I threw the plates in and lastly the cups. As I was about to start doing the dishes, Athena walked into the kitchen area.

"Is there anything I can get you Athena?" I ask in a timely manner. "No I'm good, I just came to remind you about something." All the sudden I felt hands grab the back of my shoulders and I was thrown onto the ground using her werewolf strength as my fragile body slammed to the ground. Using her werewolf strength was against pack law to use on a human. My head began to hurt as my lips and nose were bleeding and started to swell.

"Now since I've got your attention loud and clear you pathetic human bitch, I came here to remind you that if the food isn't good and that if you fail, I will hurt you so much worse than what I did to you and you're also to remain invisible at my party, you don't exist got it?" I nodded my head cupping my nose. "Good and if you tell your parents what I did to you, they won't believe you. You may not have realized it but you not shifting was the best thing ever for me. Now get up and go clean yourself up you dirty waste of a human" she snapped.

I went to the bathroom in the pack house and washed my face up. My lips were swollen and my nose really hurt. I had dishes to do so I do my best to clean up my face the best I could and then walked out and walked back into the kitchen. How was I going to deal with this when my parents retired and moved across the country? They've been wanting to move to England for the longest time, but they were hoping I would shift before they retired so they could put me in charge as alpha but since I didn't, today I found out it would be Athena that would be in charge of the pack and it didn't sit well with me.

My parents were going to give me their house originally but when they leave, they're giving it to Athena if she's able to find her mate, this way they'd have their own privacy. I despised my parents for that as well, but at the same time they need a wolf not a human to be in charge of the pack and they need a Luna and Alpha of the pack and clearly I also wasn't fit for that. But it still hurt me.

Finally after almost 2 hours the kitchen was fully cleaned, the pantries were fully restocked, all the floors were swept and mopped and as always because they're wolves and they're always hungry, I always left snacks out. It was a ham and cheese platter plus crackers and a different assortment of muffins.

As I left, the thought of Athena being in charge really haunted me. She would make sure I'd suffer a lot more and making my life a living hell and I wasn't planning on letting that happen. I planned on leaving before my parents left. I didn't know where I was going to go, but I knew I had to get out of here before they moved. I'd have to invest into getting a job and it would require me to leave the pack house.
