Chapter Ten

Caroline and Alexis were prepping the backseat of the car for Clair as they wanted to make it comfortable for the 12 hour journey back to the hospital where she was previously treated for her injuries. They had put a tiny mattress on the back seat following two blankets and a thick memory foam pillow. "Did you remember to grab the restraints Alexis? Alec wants us to secure her if she shifts in the car. It's doubtful she will but just as a precaution." Caroline asked and Alexis gave her a blank stare. "You forgot them didn't you?" Alexis nodded her head. "Well let's hope she doesn't happen to shift then." Caroline said as she was upset.

It was just after breakfast both girls along with Luna Isabelle and Alpha Max went into Clair's room wanting to see their daughter one last time before they took off with their daughter. Max silently apologized for how he'd been treating her and her mom apologized as well for not doing anything. After that they lifted her up and carried her down the steps and into Caroline's car where James and Adam were waiting in their car behind her. "Remember if anything happens to her and she ends up dead, you all better run as far away from this place" Max said in a serious tone before him and Luna Isabeth walked to the pack house to prep lunch.

Phone Call:
Alec: "Alexis what's going on?"

Alexis: "Nothing sir, I just wanted to inform you that we are on our way with Clair."

Alec: "Is she restrained?"

Alexis: "I forgot the restraints."

Alec: -Growls loudly over the phone- "If she shifts and gets loose, I'm going to very pissed off at you because I'm going to have to go find her before any werewolf or lycan assumes she's a rouge and kills her and then punish all 4 of you!"

Alexis: "Yes, understood sir."

Alec: -Growls loudly again before hanging up-

"Well you sure know how to piss him off" Caroline said laughing and Alexis shot her a dirty look. "You're lucky you're driving Caroline otherwise I'd smack you." Alexis said laughing back. They were 4 hours into their drive as it was now evening hours and it was dark out and on top of that it was a full moon, but this moon was different. The moon had a red tint to it. "Hey Caroline look at the moon, it's actually sort of cool." As Caroline looked at the moon, her mouth dropped open and then she quickly gazed her eyes back onto the road. "Yeah it sure is pretty cool, but something doesn't seem right about it." She said with worry and concern and just then Clair breathing became faster and faster.

"Oh shit Caroline her breathing just changed. How far out are we?" "Fuck we're still 8 hours out. Alec isn't going to like this but you're going to have to call him, we aren't going to make it back in time."

Phone Call:
Alec: "What is it now?"

Alexis: "Her breathing has changed. It's pretty fast."

Alec: -A large growl booms out of the phone as he hangs up-

"Just wonderful Caroline, you had to just upset him  even more. I hope he doesn't get pissed and come looking for us in his lycan form. I'm not ready to shift into my lycan form and fight him." "I believe he'd be more concerned about Clair then picking a fight with you"

All the sudden they hear a growl in the back seat and it was something that didn't sound werewolf or lycan and it sent chills down their necks and spines. They both looked behind their seats to a half shifted Clair. Both of their mouths dropped opened as Caroline pulled over.

Both of them got out and tried to hold Clair down, but Clair threw the both of them across the other side of the road as she let out another growl as she finished shifting. There stood a pure white wolf, taller and bigger than any werewolf and lycan with one red eye and one purple eye as she turned around and ran straight for the woods.

Caroline and Alexis were slowly getting up after being thrown several feet across the other side of the road. "What the hell is she?!" Alexis yelled. "I have no idea but she's very strong. I hope Alec gets here soon or is out there looking for her" "We have a problem Caroline, I sense not only Clair's wolf, but there's something else out there and it's powerful as well. It's not Alec either, it's another lycan. We need to get to Clair before it gets to here we need to go now!" They both took off towards the woods shifting into their lycan wolves hoping to find Clair.

Clair was deep into the woods already and pretty close to the lycan that was nearing close to her. She came to a stop as a giant black wolf almost as big and tall as her stepped out inront of her. He growled at her giving her a warning but then stopped as he looked at her. His eyes softened up as he came closer and sniffed her. Immediately he got close to her face as he looked at her eyes. Then he started circling around her and then he sat infront of her. He felt a huge pull towards her, which told him that she was his. He'd found his mate. He could tell she felt the same way and he knew this was her first shift.

Growling came from behind the both of them as Alexis and Caroline stepped out. He got Infront of Clair and growled at the both of them signaling that she was his mate which meant they had to back off. But Caroline and Alexis stood their ground and growled at him wanting a challenge. This time he growled louder and 20 more lycans appeared out of nowhere. Caroline and Alexis slowly backed up and turned around running back the way they came. Then he nudged Clair to follow him.

"We are in deep shit Alexis. We're too late. That was Alec's brother Klaus that we came across. Now Alec is definitely going to have to be the one to get her. We aren't allowed in Klaus's land because your dumbass had to steal from them when we were kids." Caroline said "It was just a piece of bread" "But it was technically stealing Alexis." She rolled her eyes and then they heard a branch snap behind them. It was Alec in his lycan form. He growled at the both of them as they lower their heads to him. "Where is she?" He growled. "There was nothing we could do, your brother as her." He snapped and growled at the both of them.

"There was nothing we could do Alec. He had his entire pack with him and the way you're brother was protecting Clair, it's as if she's his mate." He looked at her with anger in his face. "There's no fucking way she can be his mate. I thought he already found his mate. He lied about it then! Damnit!"

"How are we going to get her back?" Caroline asked as Alec have her a blank stare. "There is no getting her back. It's our law, once one of us finds our mate, by law both werewolves and and lycans, we are to not interfere or cause problems between them and their mates." Both of the girls frowned. "I will see what I can do, but I will not interfere, understood? Both of them shook their heads. "Where's Adam and James?" Alec asked. "I think they took a different route back to the hospital" Alexis said. "Well you ladies get on back home, I will have a few words with my brother.
