Chapter 9

A few days later...

Kaye POV

Someone from school was having a party this weekend. Jeremy and I were invited, but since Michael wasn't invited, I wasn't going. Jeremy was though. But it's fine. He can go to a party. Michael's been acting weird today though. He just seems really anxious and on edge for some reason. I don't get it because Jeremy came over yesterday and hung out for a little while. Things seem ok with Jeremy for now, unless Michael knows something I don't.

"Kaye?" Michael called from his bedroom.

"Yeah?"

"Do you have the address of the party Jeremy's going to?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"I need to tell him something."

"Uh... Ok...? You can't call or text him?"

"I just feel like I need to tell him in person."

"Ok. Can I ask what you want to tell him?"

Michael appeared in my doorway, still looking nervous.

"It's about his squip," he said, quietly.

"Ok. What about it?"

"Well... I just found out that maybe they're like... dangerous. Like end up in a mental hospital, kind of dangerous."

"Oh..."

"Can I have the address?"

"Yeah. It's at Jake's house."

I wrote the address down and gave it to Michael.

"Thanks. I'll be back in a little bit."

"Wait. Are you doing ok? You've been kind of on edge today."

"I'm fine. I'm just worried about Jeremy. And I'm kind of nervous about showing up at the party. But I'll be fine."

"Ok. Good luck."

"Thanks."

Michael left. I was busy studying for a test on Monday. I know I have all weekend to study, but I'd rather get it over with now. But I didn't get very far with studying because about 20 minutes later, I got a call from Michael.

"Hello?"

"K-Kaye! J-Jeremy! He p-pushed me! A-and-"

I can tell he's having a panic attack.

"Michael, calm down. What's going on?"

"I'm c-coming home."

"You're driving? Michael, you need to calm down if you're driving."

"I c-can't!"

"Michael, you're going to get in an accident. I need you to take deep breaths. Don't try to explain what happened until you get home, ok? Just take deep breaths."

I could hear him crying, but it sounded like he was trying to take deep breaths. The party was only about 5 minutes from here, so I know he's almost home.

I looked out my window and saw him pull into the driveway, so I jumped out of bed and went downstairs to meet him at the door. As soon as he came in, he threw his arms around me, crying.

"Ok, let's go sit down on the couch, and you can tell me what happened," I said, leading him towards the living room.

We both sat down on the couch. I put my arm around Michael, and he sort of cuddled into my side, leaning his head on my shoulder.
