Carina had gotten the call after a long exhausting shift at the hospital.
She had made her way home opened her door and that's when she got the call.
As soon as she was told what happened she was soon back at the hospital.
Carina rested her face against the collar of her jacket, Maya's scent engulfing the brunettes senses.
All she could smell was her.
Carina couldn't stop the tears from slipping when she saw her wife.
Lifeless.
Andy had explained every detail of what happened it broke her heart but she needed to understand what happened.
Carina nodded and gasped whilst listening.
The moment she lost her wife she had gone numb.
The person she was meant to spend the rest of her life with was gone in an instant.
It wasn't fair.
Maya and Carinas love was so pure so real.
Yet the love they had couldn't last them.
Anger and pain shot through Carinas entire body.
Anger because it wasn't fair.
The love of her life died saving someone else's.
Pain because she was alone.
Her favourite pair of blue eyes had drowned in the ocean.
She slid down the wall her body not being able to stand on its own.
It was like as soon as Maya died she couldn't go on.
Maya was her missing puzzle piece.
Her soulmate.
She cried for hours, and hours until there were no more tears left to cry.
Until her eyes were swollen and puffy.
Until her head pounded against her scull.
Until her heart pounded against her chest.
It wasn't fair.
That's all she could mutter.
No other words were said to anyone.
She couldn't speak not even to Andrew.
She was a widow.
She would never love again.
Maya was her ending.
Her happy ending.
When she finally lifted herself from the floor, when her legs could support the rest of her body, her legs automatically took her to where Maya was.
She received a nod from Amelia when she saw Carina walk into the room.
Amelia didn't want to leave Maya's side for Carinas sake.
She wasn't alone when she passed.
There was a sheet placed over Maya's face.
Carina moved closer to where Maya lay.
She dragged a chair so she could sit by Maya's side.
As she sat she didn't dare pull the sheet.
She just cried.
Her head rested against the rough texture of the white sheet that covered Maya's motionless body.
In comparison to Maya's soft smooth skin she hated the texture of the white sheet.
