The two lay under the stars, perfectly complacent in each other's presence.
George's head rests on Dream's chest as his hand entwines with Dream, who wraps an arm around George's shoulder. He could fall asleep like this.
He could spend forever like this.
George finds it ironic. He's always preferred night to day, the darkness to the light. It has a captivating lure. The depths of the aura of the moon are far more welcoming than the sun's harsh rays... Yet— yet somehow he managed to fall in love with the brightest person he's ever met.
Dream is the sun himself. He's all sunshine. With honeyed eyes and a golden smile, so pure and bright. His personality is magnetic, drawing George in towards his warmth. George has always loved the stars and their constellations, yet he finds them on Dream's face, scattered in the form of freckles.
Dream's soul is like magic, bliss, and joy. His smile feels like home, and his words sound like forever.
George wishes Dream could know his thoughts. The way George feels— it's hard to articulate into words. How Dream makes his heart jump when he says his name, or the way he makes George feel safe in the way no one else has. He can't form it all into words, and love sounds too simple.
Love is a simple word, short and sweet, but Dream makes George feel something more. He doesn't have the word for it, and it frustrates him. He doesn't want to settle on such a commonly used word, something used in everyday language. For instance, he loves the color blue, but that is nothing compared to how he feels about Dream.
George must let out a frustrated sigh, because Dream hums softly, asking, "What's up?"
"I was just thinking about us," George murmurs, smiling when Dream gives his hand a gentle squeeze.
"Oh yeah?" Dream replies, and George can hear the smile in his voice. "Care to fill me in?"
With a fond eye roll, George lifts his head to meet Dream's gaze. He finds the promise of forever in Dream's eyes.
"I think I love you," George whispers. The moment it leaves George's lips, he no longer thinks, he knows. "Is that okay?"
Dream grins, bright like the sun. He lifts George's chin with his fingers. "It's way more than okay, George."
George echoes Dream's grin with his own. Dream laughs softly to himself. "You're such an idiot," he murmurs fondly. "Of course I'm okay with you loving me. You know what?" A mischievous glint enters his eyes as he whispers, "I love you more."
"That's not possible," George replies breathlessly. "I—"
"Dream, George!" Sapnap shouts from across the field. "Get your asses over here now!"
And just like that their moment is gone.
George and Dream share a soft smile, but their smiles fade when Sapnap shouts again, a panicked rush in his voice.
They scramble up, eyes wide as a jet powers up in the distance. Their friends board the jet hurriedly.
"What's happening?" George's voice is tight in his throat.
Dream squeezes his hand, replying, "I don't know."
Sapnap waves them over frantically and Dream and George break into a run. They run up to Sapnap, who explains, "We're getting out of here."
"Why?" Dream asks.
"I don't trust Techno one bit," Sapnap says, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Dream and George board the jet behind him. "Sam has been learning how to fly for the past week in secret. I don't want to wait any longer, so we're leaving now."
